The Position


Beaverton Municipal Court is hiring a Court Operations Supervisor to help oversee daily operations of one of the busiest municipal courts in the State of Oregon. The Court Operations Supervisor is part of a three-person leadership team (a Court Administrator and two Supervisors) that provides day-to-day support for the Court’s employees and operations. Beaverton Municipal Court and its staff process approximately 3,000 misdemeanors and 60,000 violations each year. A typical week for a supervisor will include training staff, one-on-one meetings or coaching with employees, filling in for an absence in the courtroom, preparing budget or billing documents, working with a customer in person or on the phone to answer a tricky question or meet a complicated need, or coordinating with other city departments, including Police and the City Attorney’s Office.

This is a full-time, exempt, Management 2 (M2) position. Due to the operational nature of this position, the Court Operations Supervisor is expected to work primarily in-person at the Court, Monday-Friday. There is one vacancy.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the operations of Beaverton Municipal Court, to ensure the goals and objectives of the city and Municipal Court are met.
  • Plan, assign, monitor, review and evaluate the work of Court operations staff, including hiring, training, coaching, performance evaluations, and scheduling.
  • Interpret and explain policies and procedures to Court and city staff and the public. Respond to complaints and to unusual or complex requests for information. Handle confidential and sensitive information on a regular basis.
  • Perform highly technical or specialized functions, including financial transactions, research of cases, preparing orders for judges, and court clerk functions as necessary.
  • Assist in preparing and monitoring the Municipal Court’s budget by compiling, projecting, and analyzing data. Review expenditures and research and reconcile variances.
  • Advise Court Administrator of the capabilities, performance, and needs of the operations unit; participate in special projects or studies as assigned.
  • Perform Court Support Specialist 2 and 3 duties as needed.
  • Model and coach employees on excellent internal and external customer service. Promote professional and courteous behavior with a creative approach to problem resolution that creates a positive experience for the customer.
  • Perform the full functions of the role and position with integrity and respect for city policies and relevant law.
  • Additional duties as outlined in the Court Operations Supervisor class specification.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or GED, and
  • 5 years’ increasingly responsible administrative support experience in a court or legal setting, including
  • 1 year in a lead or supervisor role; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.
Licensing and special requirements
  • Incumbent may be required to maintain a valid driver's license acceptable in the State of Oregon, including the ability to meet the city's driving standards, or an acceptable alternative means of transportation to attend work and meetings. If position requires driving a city vehicle for job-related purposes, a valid driver’s license will be required.
  • Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) fingerprints must be completed and cleared prior to start date. Testing must occur within 30 days of hire to receive the CJIS certification. A passing score is 70%.
  • Ability to acquire Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to satisfy the requirements of a pre-employment drug screen.

Compensation

Wage range: $5,951.44 - $7,974.37 monthly
Starting rate will be determined depending on relevant work experience as outlined in the Equal Pay Act. New hires who meet minimum requirements will start at step one. Higher steps may be offered to those who have additional years of directly related experience to the position within the posted wage range.
