Physical Plant Services (PPS) supports the educational and public service programs of Fort Lewis College through the delivery of effective operations support, maintenance services and management of the College facilities construction programs.

The Custodian Services work unit exists to provide a safe, clean and functional campus through continuous maintenance, of College facilities and provide support for College events.

This position exists to support the mission of the Custodial Services work unit to ensure that the buildings assigned are clean, sanitary and presentable. This is an essential services position and is expected to respond during campus emergencies.

The current rate of pay is $15.50 per hour,. As of 7/1/23 the hourly rate will increase to $18.23 per hour.


Job Description:

Job Duties
80% Daily Custodial Duties
Cleans restrooms in classroom and administration buildings and shower rooms in athletic facilities. Cleans and disinfects toilets, urinals, wash bowls, showers, mirrors, partitions, doors, floors, walls and circulation vents. Restocks soap and paper products in washrooms and showers. Wash entrance windows, chalkboards, trays and erasers. Empties pencil sharpeners. Cleans and disinfects water fountains, lab sinks, doors. Makes sure classrooms, labs and offices are secure when appropriate. Reports signs of bug, insect and rodent infestation. Cleans walk-off mats. Spot-clean walls, partitions, vending machines and doors. Sweep outside entryways. Dust furniture, flat surfaces, blinds and vents.
Empties and cleans indoor and outdoor waste containers. Dusts and damp mops or vacuums floors in circulation, classrooms, offices, reception and public areas. Burnishes floors. Straighten furniture and desks when appropriate. Requires use of basic custodial equipment. Conducts on-going inspection on all cleaning equipment. Shovels snow to entryways. May need to perform other duties as assigned in case of emergencies.

15% Projects/Deep Clean
Project / deep clean and disinfect restrooms, bathrooms, shower and locker rooms. Project or deep clean entryways, circulation, reception areas, classrooms, and offices. Clean furniture and fixtures. Transports supplies and waste, on a regular basis, to appropriate locations using college vehicles. Wash windows. Requires knowledge and use of advance cleaning equipment and methods. Requires the use of a ladder. Stripping & waxing floors.

5% Special Events
Assists with special events on campus by setting up and taking down, chairs, tables, tents. Services events by picking up trash and debris, emptying trash containers, etc. after sporting events. Transports materials to appropriate locations using college vehicles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
6 months of commercial, industrial or institutional custodial experience. (Part time experience will be pro-rated)

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • A final job offer is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of a criminal background check as a condition of employment. All background checks will be conducted in accordance with Fort Lewis College policy.
  • A final job offer is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of a post offer evaluation of lifting abilities.
  • This is an essential services position and required to work outside of normal shift hours in the case of emergencies, inclement weather and special events. May be required to work some evenings and weekends and may be entitled to shift differentials.
