As an Education Animal Caregiver you are responsible for the daily feeding, cleaning, attention, and exercise requirements of all animals in the education department following all USDA licensing guidelines. These animals include, but are not limited to, rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, lizards, snakes, frogs, miniature horses, alpacas, sheep, chickens, ducks, parrots, and invertebrates. Monitor each animal's daily care for health concerns, administer medication when needed and communicate all emotional and physical conditions/needs. The Education Animal Caregiver will also direct, assist, and utilize volunteer staff to further the department's mission while ensuring all protocols are followed and will oversee the opening and closing procedures of the department. Will help develop guidelines for training, handling, and maintaining animal temperament during each animal's use in the educational programs and assist the Animal Care Supervisor in implementing animal handling guidelines for Education staff along with keeping staff up to date on animal care procedures. At times, the Animal Caregiver will assist with animal presentations for various programs within the education department.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS FOR EDUCATION ANIMAL CAREGIVER:

An ideal candidate will have experience working with and caring for all animal species listed above and is able to complete all tasks utilizing an extensive knowledge of animal care and husbandry. Previous experience overseeing animals care, the ability to communicate effectively and work independently with minimal supervision is highly preferred. Must have the ability to work around animal dander, hair, shavings, hay, straw, dust, and loud vocalizations on a daily basis. A minimum of a high school diploma is preferred and the ability to safely life 50lbs is required.

Must demonstrate regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.

As this position may require occasional driving duties, the ideal candidate must possess a valid Driver's License, complete a Driver Information Form, and provide a recent DMV Driving Record Report to be kept on file, along with proof of insurance.

50 % of this job is conducted outdoors. 50% of this job is conducted indoors.
