As an engineer at OPCoE, you will support a variety projects and programs developing new and innovative electro-optical, space-based solutions for commercial, industrial, scientific, military, and other government customers ranging across passive, active, and directed energy capabilities.

Our employees are responsible for:
  • Conducting research and planning development and design of gas and solid state lasers, masers, infrared, and other light emitting and light sensitive devices
  • Designing mechanical and optical components with specific characteristics to fit within specified mechanical limits and to perform according to specifications
  • Conducting application analysis to determine commercial, industrial, scientific, military or other use for electro-optical devices
  • Supporting RF and Electro-Optical systems by developing concepts and system design for communication, ISR, and EW missions using Optical and Photonic Integrated Circuit Chips (PICs) and devices such as lasers, detectors
  • Understanding optical and RF test equipment for optical loss, spur free dynamic range, noise figure, etc.

Our primary facilities are located in Sunnyvale, CA and Louisville, CO. We also have small teams in Littleton, CO and Huntsville, AL.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering or related technical discipline; or equivalent experience/combined education
  • Systems engineering knowledge or experience in an integration and/or test environment for electro-optical systems.
  • Knowledge or experience working with Optics and Optical Systems. Handling, Assembly, Alignments, Testing and general understanding of Optics and Optics Systems.
  • Knowledge or experience in FPGA/ASIC, Circuit Card Assembly (CCA), Embedded Software, digital electronics, or electrical systems.

Active Secret clearance or higher, thus requiring US Citizenship.
Desired Skills:
  • Experience leading others as a project or team lead in developing optical and/or electrical products through all phases of the life cycle.
  • Experience as a technical product lead of analog and/or digital electronics systems.
  • Have experience delivering electronics for optical payloads for a large program.
  • Experience with low noise Interfaces with a focal plane or understanding biases.
  • Familiarity with processes on failure investigation (root cause analysis, Failure Review Boards, etc.).
  • Experience assisting with as-built pedigree and quality documentation reviews.
  • Working knowledge of aerospace integration and test protocols, assembly and test approaches.
  • Experience working with diverse teams of engineers and technicians to execute preparations, assembly, test and procedural activities on high value hardware in clean room environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively apply lessons learned and best practices from Integration and Testing experiences to develop and champion Design for Integration and Test (DFx) initiative.
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment to develop planning and products needed to test and integrate optical payloads.
  • Technical understanding of program such as Jira, Cameo, Matlab, Python, LabVIEW, Linux, and DOORS.

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in Colorado or Washington is $106,400 - $203,900 . Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full time employees: accrue 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO); receive 40 hours of Granted PTO annually for incidental absences; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of PTO per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO is prorated based on hours worked and start date during the calendar year.

The annual base salary range for this position in California or New York City is $122,300 - $230,500 . Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
