What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a Quality Engineering Technician for the Impact Damage Team to support the development and implementation of a robust quality system that can be scaled for all of Tesla’s vehicle products. Specifically, this position will involve the identifying & root causing repeat issues related to impact damage. This includes process validation, on the fly countermeasures, and continuous improvement of manufacturing quality systems across all product lines.

The person selected for this role will have a unique opportunity to help serve all vehicle products produced at the Fremont factory. The nature of the work will be hands-on and fast-paced, with the opportunity to meaningfully improve the experience of Tesla’s products by reducing production quality and field issues.
What You’ll Do
  • Utilize the DMAIC method to identify, root cause, & eliminate quality issues as they relate to impact damage.
  • Use internal factory KPI Dashboards to identify & guide projects
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business process needs into quality improvements aimed at reducing vehicle damage.
  • Work closely with production, process, and quality team counterparts to support testing and validation of new processes in a live production environment
  • Interface between factory quality and production teams to increase knowledge and establish a feedback loop for continuous improvement
  • Perform systems validation for new lines and product launches with a focus on preventing vehicle damage
  • Proactively identify improvement opportunities (potential gaps between process and production) and work with relevant teams to develop and implement solutions (i.e. support issue resolution from root-cause analysis to countermeasure implementation)
  • Act as a business point of contact for users for day-to-day queries and adoption
  • Monitor health of system and support the definition and rollout of a quality systems audit plan
What You’ll Bring
  • High school diploma required (College degree or equivalent preferred but not required)
  • Detail-oriented with excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across diverse functional groups.
  • Must have a passion for problem-solving and improving quality standards
  • Proficient with 3D modeling software & able to utilize it with minimal guidance. Turn an idea into a physical item.
  • Proficient with 3D printing machines (preferably Ultimaker & Formlabs brands) & their various maintenance needs.
  • 1 or more years of experience in a Manufacturing, Quality, or Process focused role
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and trouble-shooting skills
  • Experience using basic hand tools (wrenches, power drills, screwdrivers, etc.)
  • Mechanical inspection experience using basic and precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings.
  • Experience writing work instructions highly desired
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing practices highly desired
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, ability to lift and sort parts of up to 30 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to operate Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
