Position Summary

Reporting to the Chancellor and CEO of Pierce College District, the Executive Director of the Pierce College Foundation is responsible for overseeing all aspects of fund development for the Foundation. The work of the Pierce College Foundation is critical to the district’s goals to build an anti-racist institution and support equitable student access and success. This includes but is not limited to: Developing and implementing strategies that maximize short and long term fundraising results including cultivating and soliciting major gifts, soliciting annual campaign gifts, identifying and overseeing proposal development and reporting on corporate and foundation grants that support mission fulfilment. The Executive Director will work with and support the Foundation Board of Directors through collaboration on fundraising plans, monthly board meetings, retreats and Foundation policies/procedures. Additionally, the Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Pierce College Foundation, including stewardship of donors and budget management. They are responsible for the fiscal integrity of the Foundation including proposing an annual budget and overseeing quarterly financial statements which accurately reflect the financial condition of the Foundation.

Essential Functions

The Executive Director will be responsible for the following, but not limited to:

Fundraising

  • Develop a fundraising plan that includes cultivating, securing and stewarding donors;
  • Research and write grants and follow up reports to support scholarships and emergency funds;
  • Write annual appeal and thank you letters. Cultivate and steward both repeat donors and new donors.
  • Attend and help plan all donor events and help secure sponsorships for events;
  • Communicate with donors through a monthly newsletter/email, sharing scholarship success stories; and
  • Work with the Chancellor on major donor stewardship.

Board of Directors

  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to develop an annual fundraising plan that includes stewardship of donors (tours, attendance at musical or athletic events, etc.);
  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the Foundation to include submission of a proposed annual budget and quarterly financial statements that accurately reflect the financial condition of the Foundation;
  • Attend all Foundation Board meetings, Executive Committee meetings, quarterly finance meetings, and Board of Trustee meetings. Communicate regularly with Foundation board members to keep them apprised of opportunities and challenges; and
  • Work with Board members to plan the Holiday Soiree and annual retreat.
Supervision and Leadership
  • Lead, guide and support Foundation staff while creating an atmosphere of collaboration and team work;
  • Perform full scope supervision of all staff assigned to the Development/Foundation department; and
  • Work with staff to set goals and manage workloads.
Marketing and Community Connections
  • Partner with the marketing and communications department on Foundation marketing materials;
  • Collaborate and advise web development on the Foundation webpage content;
  • Connect with and attend civic clubs including being a member of a Rotary Club and/or other service clubs; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education Required

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business or related field.

Experience Required

  • Minimum of five years of executive leadership and/or nonprofit management and/or foundation fundraising.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with Board of Directors.
  • Demonstrated success coordinating successful fundraising appeals and campaigns.
  • Demonstrated success identifying, soliciting, and overseeing grants from corporations and private foundations.
  • Experience writing and developing communication/marketing materials.
  • Experience creating operational budgets and interpreting data.

Terms of Employment

This is a full-time administrative - exempt position. The primary work location will be at Pierce College Puyallup campus. Frequent travel to Pierce College campuses or other sites may occur. Standard work hours are between 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours required.

Salary & Benefits

The salary range for this position is $107,964 to $133,578 annually. Typically, new hires start at $112,463 per year, based on Pierce College's Administrative/Exempt Compensation Plan.
