Summary:
The Human Resources (HR) Manager plans, directs, and coordinates human resources management activities to maximize the strategic use of human resources and maintain functions such as employee compensation, recruitment, personnel policies, and corporate communication.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a link between management and employees by handling questions, interpreting and administering contracts, and helping resolve work-related problems.
  • Participate in the development of the corporation's plans and programs as a strategic partner but particularly from the perspective of the impact on people.
  • Continue improving the programs, policies, practices and processes associated with meeting the strategic and operational people issues of the organization.
  • Advise managers on organizational policy matters such as Equal Employment Opportunity and sexual harassment and recommend needed changes.
  • Evaluate overall company compliance with FLSA and employment laws. Implement corrective action as necessary.
  • Assess current talent pool to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to business sustainability.
  • Establishes procedures for recruitment. Directs executive, professional and non-exempt recruiting including any college recruiting that may be done. Directs the interviewing, selection and placement of applicants for employment. Identify staff vacancies and recruit, interview, and assist hiring manager in selecting applicants, including background checks and verification of references.
  • Plan and conduct new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward organizational objectives. Oversee completion of New Hire Checklist.
  • Perform difficult staffing duties, including dealing with understaffing, refereeing disputes, firing employees, and administering disciplinary procedures.
  • Conduct employee termination process and exit interviews. Oversee completion of Termination Checklist.
  • Regularly create and update job descriptions to correspond with company growth.
  • Administer compensation, benefits, and performance management systems.
  • Analyze and modify compensation and benefits policies to establish competitive programs and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Plan, organize, direct, and/or coordinate personnel, training, and/or labor relations activities.
  • Monitor and evaluate time keeping and work flow data to determine areas for growth or efficiencies.
  • Draft Employee Handbook updates and policy creation/communication for senior management approval.
  • Complete quarterly, annual, and project-based compliance reporting requests.
  • Work with Site Safety Manager to track training and workers compensation claims.
  • Represent organization at personnel-related hearings and investigations.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of Human Resources experience is required, 1-2 years as an HR Manager. 1-2 years Supervisory experience
  • PHR/SPHR certification is preferred.
  • Familiarity with FLSA regulations regarding exempt/non-exempt classifications.
  • Experience with HRIS and/or payroll systems is required, Paycom a plus.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for recruiting, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations, and recordkeeping security in accordance with Federal and State regulations.
  • Working knowledge of the following: human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability and personality; learning styles and motivational factors.
  • Knowledge of training/instruction methods for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • Excellent communication skills whether in person, over the phone, via email, or in front of groups.
  • Must be skilled in critical thinking, complex problem solving, and negotiation.
  • Must be dependable, able to maintain confidentiality, and think objectively in all situations, as well as displaying willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction.
  • Must be able to maintain composure in stressful situations.
