The College of Arts & Sciences is the largest college at Cornell University, and the Government Department within the College is one of the College’s top three majors, graduating approximately 130 seniors annually. Government boasts many prize-winning professors. Government has 35 faculty, five non-academic staff, over 300 undergraduate students, and 80 graduate students. The Gender and Security Sector Lab (GSS), under the direction of Professor Sabrina Karim, supports global policy discussions, national security sector actors, and research entities in target troop and police contributing countries to strengthen efforts to advance women’s meaningful participation in United Nations peacekeeping.

Under the supervision of the Gender and Security Sector (GSS) Lab Director and in coordination with the Government Department Administrative Manager, the GSS Lab Program Coordinator provides programmatic, administrative and research support to the activities of the Lab. Currently, the Lab is funded by a grant from Global Affairs Canada, and Professor Sabrina Karim is the Principal Investigator. Responsibilities include assistance with grant and financial management; grant proposal writing; assisting with lab human resources; developing and implementing a communications strategy for the Lab; training lab personnel; lab document retention; lab manual preparation; conference/workshop and travel planning; report/policy brief writing; and other research and administrative duties.

The position has a two-year term, renewable based on funding and performance.


Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in Political Science, Sociology, Economics, Communications or related disciplines in the social sciences and 4-6 years of relevant administration, human resources and/or grant management experience, or equivalent combination.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communications skills.
  • Demonstrated office productivity software experience, including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated grant proposal and management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with social media and website design/management.
