The Lead Direct Support Staff person directly supports the Site Supervisor in maintaining Mainstay Western PA program operations in accordance with Chapter 6400 (Community Homes for Individuals with an Intellectual Disability) of the Public Welfare Code. In addition to providing direct-care to consumers and performing the duties of the DSP staff, this leadership position serves as a mentor to DPS staff members via modeling effective interpersonal interactions, developing creative strategies aimed at enhancing consumers' independent living skills, and maintaining professionalism. The Lead DSP Staff person will perform responsibilities assigned by the Site Supervisor to ensure that quality services and operations are maintained. Compensation for this position may vary due to the needs of the individuals in the homes.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Provide support and supervision to Mainstay Western PA consumers, according to individual plans of supervision, during direct-care shifts focusing on the consumers' reduction of risk and enhancement of independent living skills. Support, guide, and teach Mainstay consumer's everyday skills, including cooking/food preparation, shopping, budgeting, interpersonal skills, utilizing community resources, vocational skills, social and interpersonal development, etc.
  • Assist in the implementation of the consumers' Individual Service Plans, focusing on supporting consumers in developing lifestyles conducive to goal attainment through community integration and the acquisition of independent living skills
  • Support the professional development of DSP staff members through modeling professionalism, maintaining effective interpersonal interactions, consistently adhering to Mainstay Western PA policies and procedures, and teaching effective consumer support strategies.
  • Assist in orienting and training DSP staff during onsite orientation, including teaching DSP staff responsibilities, site checklists, Mainstay Western PA Policies and Procedures, relevant systems, and all required documentation.
  • Complete and review all required documentation, including MARS, vehicle logs, medication logs, progress notes, sleep logs, menu plans, telephone logs, client inventories, incident reports, serious concerns, medical/dental forms, individual bank records, fire drills, property forms, individual monthly reports, 90-day psychiatric reviews. As needed, coach DSP Staff members on the proper completion of all required documentation.
  • Provide regular, constructive feedback to the Site Supervisor related to operations in the home, including necessary documentation, adherence to Mainstay Western PA Policies and Procedures, and the daily activities of consumers.
  • Model and provide guidance to consumers with regards to rights, independence and interpersonal skills
  • Communicate schedules and assignments as outlined by Site Supervisors for client appointments and activities (i.e. arranging transport and/or assist clients to and from appointments, coordinate funds needed, etc.)
  • Communicate with interdisciplinary team using corporate email, accessing email regularly during assigned shifts to ensure information is being shared in a timely fashion
  • Assist the Site Supervisor in ensuring licensing regulations of the site remain compliant & perparing for inspections
  • Communicate with co-workers, Program Specialist, and Program Leadership as necessary to ensure continuity of care
  • Attend and actively participate in all team meetings and training programs related to individuals and staff at the designated home
  • Manage appropriate usage of the ARI/RHD gas card
  • Assist Site Supervisor with maintaining company vehicles, including scheduling appointments, maintaining vehicle records, and reporting/facilitating reporting of accidents according to corporate guidelines.

Required Experience

Two years of experience working with individuals with IDD and Mental Health issues

Experience working with invidiuals with problematic sexual behaviors, preferred

Required Education

High School diploma or equivalent at a minimum; Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Valid driver's license and a personal vehicle/ access to immediate and direct transportation
  • Ability to complete background checks
