Extensive evidence based research has demonstrated the effectiveness of MST. MST therapists do whatever it takes, via close collaboration with all involved, to address the needs of juveniles who are involved in high-risk behaviors and, in some cases, substance abuse. You will empower families to address life challenges and problematic behaviors and to help youth and adolescents to make positive life changes, giving them a Second Chance at life.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct MST assessments including review of referral information, identifying and engaging key participants, identifying systemic strengths and weaknesses, and developing an analysis of the fit of problem behaviors within the ecological context.
  • Carry a caseload of only 4-6 clients.
  • Engage primary caregivers and other key participants in active change-oriented treatment by identifying and overcoming barriers to engagement.
  • Implement problem conceptualization, treatment planning, intervention implementation, case outcome review, and strategy revision procedure using the MST Analytic Process.
  • Maintain clear and concise documentation of treatment efforts that promote peer and supervisory review and feedback, and that demonstrate compliance with the 9 MST Principles and the MST Analytic Process.
  • Ability to engage and collaborate with all relevant systems and key participants within each system, to maintain alignment throughout MST treatment.
  • Provide direct clinical treatment using methods compatible with MST principles and practices.
  • Participate in all MST training, supervision and consultation activities.
  • Provide limited on call emergency services.

Education/Qualification:

  • Master’s Degree in Mental Health Clinical Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related subject area.
  • Must be registered with VA Dept of Health Professionals with a Resident in Counseling or Supervisee in Social Work (LMHP-E) or Fully Licensed (LPC, LCSW, LMFT) in Virginia.

Preferred Experience:

  • Direct use of structural, strategic and functional family therapies
  • Individual therapy with children and adults using CBT methods.
  • Marital therapy using behaviorally-based approaches
  • Behavioral therapy targeting school behavior and academic performance
  • Implementation of interventions within or between systems in the youth’s natural environment that affect or influence their behavior: family, peers, school, and neighborhood
  • Collaboration and partnership with community agencies: CSB, DSS, Juvenile Court
  • Previous experience providing in-home or community-based services

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
