Overview:

At Fairview Northland Medical Center the Med Surg unit consists of medical and surgical, pediatrics, and adult Intensive Care patients. The Med/Surg/Peds unit consists of 22 beds and the ICU has 4 beds. We have 43 nurses, 12 nursing assistants (also known as nursing station attendants), and 1 HUC.   • 12 hour Night shifts
  • Location: Fairview Northland Medical Center, Princeton, MN

Work under direction of nursing personnel to provide patient care while functioning as a nursing assistant and as a health unit coordinator. Duties may include: patient cares, vitals, bathing, feeding, answering call lights, transporting, care of environment (by stocking, cleaning, and maintaining rooms) and use of equipment, phones, clerical, transcription, and coordinate the flow of communication on the unit. May work as a patient care attendant.
Responsibilities/Job Description:
Assist with receptionist duties:
  • Provides oversight of telephone communications within the department
  • Transmit information to appropriate personnel
  • Record messages
  • Assist visitors.
  • Maintain department specific sources of information
  • HUC desk duties
Communicate orders to appropriate information source and communicate pending orders/results to appropriate staff in a timely manner.

Assemble and maintain patient charts:
Prepare charts for discharge and patient transfer within Northland or other facilities.

Maintain the patient care area:
  • Assure safe, clean and efficient environment on station.
  • Maintain desk order.
  • Perform cleaning duties on station.
  • Monitor, order and stock supplies and equipment.
Assist with the delivery of patient care:
  • Provide care under the direct supervision of a nurse.
  • Provide transfer and transport of patients, supplies specimens and/or messages.
  • Knowledge of specialty equipment and procedures
  • Comfort Rounds
  • Glucose Testing

  • Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served
  • Partners with patient care giver in care/decision making.
  • Communicates in a respectful manner.
  • Ensures a safe, secure environment.
  • Individualizes plan of care to meet patient needs.
  • Modifies clinical interventions based on population served.
  • Provides patient education based on as assessment of learning needs of patient/care giver.
  • Fulfills all organizational requirements
  • Completes all required learning relevant to the role
  • Complies with all relevant laws, regulation and policies
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Required:


  • Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)
OR
  • Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program
OR
  • Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position (exception: MHealth Fairview West Bank Nursing Assistants)
    • NOTE: Individuals who have completed a Nursing Assistant program and are scheduled to take the NA Registry exam will be granted 90 days post hire to become active on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry. (Exception: M Health Fairview West Bank Nursing Assistants must be on the Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants much be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
