GENERAL DESCRIPTION

  • The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is a dynamic state agency with over 4000 employees throughout the State of Texas. The Constituent Affairs Division (CAD) is the OAG's interface with the general public. Incoming contacts from the public, whether by phone, mail, or email, are received by CAD and are handled by CAD or routed elsewhere in the agency to be handled. This position’s work involves compiling the agency’s daily news report, assessing, and answering constituent telephone inquiries.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

  • Reads daily newspapers, selects articles for agency news report; organizes, copies and distributes agency news report; maintains circulation list and agency news report archives (includes researching agency news report); reviews TPA (Texas Press Association) articles and internet listings; maintains consistency of agency report team’s processes and technology.
  • Assesses and answers constituent telephone inquiries, provides information; refers and transfers callers to appropriate destination, including, but not limited to, divisions within the Office of the Attorney General, and various agencies and organizations contingent upon callers’ needs, and documents calls
  • Research information to assist constituents inquires
  • Ability to work 7:00 a.m. – 4:00p.m.
  • Performs related work as assigned
  • Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions
  • Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule
  • Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information
  • Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity
Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; experience in the following (or closely related) fields may be substituted for the required education on a year-to year bases; call center, customer service, or experience providing information services to the general public.
  • Knowledge of state government
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines
  • Skill in effective oral and written communication
  • Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making
  • Ability to proficiently read, write, and speak English
  • Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG workspace within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave)
  • Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel
  • Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA
  • Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
  • Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 5%

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Government, or a closely related discipline
  • Experience: Providing information services to the public, in research, writing, or public relations, general proficiency
  • with personal computers. Multi-line switchboard and clerical tasks.
  • Abilities: 35 wpm
  • Other Language: Ability to proficiently read, write, and speak English and Spanish
