This City of Littleton has an exciting opportunity for a Grounds Operations Supervisor. The Operations Supervisor performs a variety of administrative and supervisory duties in support of the Grounds team. The Operations Supervisor is responsible for employee supervision, assigning and tracking work progress, employee development and training.

The ideal candidate will have experience working as a supervisor or manager with a landscape crew, preferably at a Municipality. Candidates will have a passion for turf and will take pride in the many beautiful parks and greens that make up the City of Littleton will be successful in this role. Starting salary at or near $95,471.20
per year

This full-time position is exempt per FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Work Schedule:
This full-time position will work 6-2:30, Monday through Friday. Must be available to work nights and weekends as needed for snow removal.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Communicate information to field staff, and prioritize work assignments
  • Ensure deadlines are met and level of service meets expectations
  • Provide the resources and support necessary to accomplish consistent and acceptable work outcomes
  • Foster an environment of employee engagement to include training, evaluation and environments to achieve success
  • Track and assess workflow progress, and performance metrics
  • Prioritize work directives for subordinate employees, to include establishing deadlines and cost control measures
  • Manage projects and programs that achieve successful outcomes including performance measures and quality control
  • Responds appropriately to citizen requests and Evaluates maintenance needs and required actions
  • Follow department policies and procedures, relevant directives and expectations
  • Report to management on progress of maintenance and repair functions, employee issues and needs
  • Develop and maintain tracking mechanisms and systems
  • Evaluate budgets, expenditures, inventories and equipment and provide recommendations
  • Assist with hiring of staff
  • Responsible for managing performance to include administering discipline if required Manage employee attendance, paid time off (PTO) and time reporting systems (time entry)
  • On-call for emergency/disaster situations including winter snow operations
  • Demonstrate accountability for themselves and their direct reports
  • Ensure that all work is performed according to applicable safety regulations, rules, policies, plans and specifications
  • Ensure public safety as it pertains to the construction and rehabilitation actives of city infrastructure
  • Participate in the activities and services of other City Departments and Divisions as appropriate
  • Coordinate and administer emergency response actions
  • May act as an emergency worker
  • Other relevant duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervises assigned work crews as assigned
  • Selects, trains, and evaluates personnel; assigns, and directs work; addresses complaints and resolves issues
  • Manages employee performance through meaningful, timely feedback and appraisals

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent; and
  • Three (3) years of experience in grounds maintenance, parks operation and maintenance, or a related field, and
  • At least three (3) years of supervisory or team lead experience overseeing grounds or parks operations maintenance; and
  • Knowledge of irrigation installation and repair, landscape maintenance and/or forestry care; or
  • An equivalent combination of formal education, training and work experience that produces the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, motor vehicle records check, drug screen and physical.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Related certifications such as CPRP, pesticide applicators license or ISA certification preferred.
  • Experience in landscape renovations
  • Experience with ROW and median maintenance
  • Experience in asset management systems and replacement programs for aging infrastructure.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Experience and innovative in methods and techniques of construction, maintenance and repair of assigned department assets.
  • Familiar with safety practices that have been established by the City through written polices and procedures. These types of standard operating procedures are used in conjunction with OSHA regulations, City Storm Water regulations, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and other state and federal laws regarding proper use of materials and equipment.
  • Accurate record keeping and reporting concerning time and materials. Ability to read, interpret, write and use basic math and geometry associated with work activities.
  • Computer skills: Demonstrated ability to use MS Office (word, excel, outlook), Cartegraph and Time Entry Administration. Demonstrated experience with GIS-based software and equipment.
  • Read and interpret maps, sketches, drawings, specifications and technical manuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to provide leadership to maintenance personnel as directed by the Manager. Willingness and ability to assume interim “Acting” role in the absence of their immediate supervisor.
  • Ability to provide and/or schedule training and coaching to maintenance personnel to include City mandatory training requirements.
  • Ability to conduct work assignments with limited supervision while adhering to procedural requirements that results in a high level of work and product outcomes.
  • Ability to assess work environment for efficiencies and deficiencies in safety, production, competitiveness and effectiveness. Contribute to new and innovative procedures and practices. Willingness and ability to support operational change.
  • Support management in a positive manner that fosters continuation of department, division and City directives, goals and visions.
  • Understanding of project/program/maintenance management concepts and techniques.
  • Ability to stay current with industry standards of practice and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to balance workload and responsibilities, specifically administrative and physical demands.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, confining workspaces, around electrical hazards, noise, vibrations, chemicals, dust, mechanical hazards, and flammable materials.
  • Ability to lift objects up to 50lbs regularly and 75 lbs. with or without accommodation.
