$32+ per hour DOE
Responsibilities:- Hold client interviews to gather information about their legal problems
- Work with lawyers to prepare for trial by conducting research on legal articles, preparing and organizing exhibits, organizing and coordinating witnesses, filing motions, and assisting with client meetings
- Prepare legal documents, correspondence, and pleadings such as complaints, interrogatories, subpoenas, deposition notices, pretrial orders, legal briefs, and affidavits, under the supervision of a lawyer
- Arrange law office activity such as drafting subpoenas and coordinating with process servers
- Perform administrative duties such as answering phone calls and keeping our case filing system organized so all documents are readily accessible
- Heavily relied upon for motion writing/discovery skills
- Unlawful detainer experience preferred but not required
- Excellent organizational skills, and time-management skills
- 3 years of experience in legal services under an attorney or lawyer in a law firm setting
- Completion of a nationally-accredited paralegal program strongly preferred
- Talented communicator and writer
- ABA-approved paralegal certificate program such as an Associate’s degree or proprietary school program in paralegal studies, Bachelor’s degree desired
- Extensive experience with motion writing and discovery in a busy law firm setting
- Prior experience as a litigation paralegal in a busy law firm setting
- Knowledge of administrative procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing client services, including problem-solving
- Knowledge of computer office programs, legal software, and telephones
- Ability to make decisions quickly and accurately regarding complex situations and tasks
- Ability to utilize independent reason and problem-solving skills with limited oversight in order to make accurate decisions
- Ability to follow instructions and utilize problem-solving skills in order to meet crucial deadlines
- Strong ability to multitask and meet strict deadlines in a high-pressure environment
Preferred:
- Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, and government regulations. Knowledge of Civil Procedure
- Familiarity/knowledge of landlord-tenant laws
- Unlawful detainer experience
