Job Duties

This is a full-time, restricted position funded by a federal grant. The grant funding will expire on 12/31/2024; continuation beyond that date is contingent on the availability of grants funds.

Our Office of New Americans (ONA) in the Division of Community and Volunteer Services is seeking a Program Consultant, Sr. This position will be responsible for managing the Virginia Afghan Refugee Student Program in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Education. The position works directly with school divisions and individual schools and works closely with Virginia's resettlement agencies. The position prepares detailed reports on the progress of Afghan school age children; and to conduct monitoring of the Department of Education and/or school districts and individual schools on the fulfillment of the outcome goals consistent with the Memo of Understanding between Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) and Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in a human services field and/or an equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
  • Familiarity with Virginia Public schools.
  • Considerable knowledge of research, analysis, planning, evaluation, and measurement techniques to include forecasting and decision analysis.
  • Knowledge of statistics, policy analysis, and program implementation.
  • Critical thinking skills as demonstrated in prior work experience.
  • Knowledge of human services or social services field and program management.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce graphs and charts and perform data analysis.
  • Computer proficiency with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders, priorities, and deliverables.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Refugee Program and experience in a multicultural service.
