Registered Nurse (RN), PRN Days, Radiation Oncology

UC Health is hiring a PRN Registered Nurse (RN) for the Radiation Oncology for the dayshift at Barrett Cancer Center. The Radiation Oncology Nurse will support the Medical Center's leading Oncology care and Level III Trauma Center, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care and according to policy and procedures.

The Registered Nurse in Radiation will take care of a variety of patients including Veterans' Affair patients, inpatients from the main hospital, Cincinnati Children's Hospital patients, and a variety of patients from the community. The RN is responsible for managing side effects of radiation daily as well as assisting physicians with day-to-day care of patients undergoing radiation treatments which includes prescriptions refills, FMLA forms, etc. The RN is also responsible for caring for patients undergoing special high dose radiation procedures known as brachytherapy procedures.

Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse (RN) is an individual who holds a current state license to practice nursing. The practice of nursing requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide care to groups and individuals. The RN utilizes knowledge derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care. The care is culturally based and age-specific.
  • Prepares, implements, evaluates, revises and coordinates interdisciplinary plan of care for each assigned patient in a collaborative effort with the other healthcare team members and patient/family within the time frame indicated by unit's standards of practice.
  • Communicates formulated plan of care, as appropriate, to all levels of associates involved in the patient's care, and demonstrates ability to establish priorities of care based on patient's assessment and needs.
  • Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment, and involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient.
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to different patient needs resulting from behavioral health problems, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, accountability, flexibility, and a cooperative attitude in meeting the needs of the unit.
  • Nursing process is accurately and concisely documented, including evaluation of treatment and in accordance to hospital policy and procedure.
  • Acts as a resource person and mentor for new personnel, floater, and/or supplemental staff working on the unit.

Assumes responsibility for personal professional development and contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others

Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • Associate's Degree, minimum required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing, preferred
  • Current OH RN License
  • 4-5 years of experience (preferred)
