SUMMARY STATEMENT

Assistant will assist with a variety of duties in the Campus Store including ordering and maintaining an adequate inventory of the various texts and supplies; unpacking and checking in orders, computing prices, and shelving orders; returning books to publishers for credit, run point of sale system, cash handling, and provide stellar customer service. This position also requires opening and closing of store.


ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

A. Reports directly, and is responsible to, the Campus Store Manager.


B. Coordinates closely with publishing companies and outside vendors in fulfilling assigned responsibilities.


C. This position requires the shared responsibility of training student aides helping them excel at being an HCC Campus Store ambassador to the public.


DUTIES

A. Assists with the daily operation of the Campus Store providing top level customer service.

1. Sells textbooks and supplies and assists customers with their selection.


2. Operates cash register/ point of sale system.


3. Unpacks and checks in orders; computes prices and prices merchandise.


4. Assists with all phases of textbook ordering, receiving and placing on shelves.


5. Assists with Campus Store buyback and computation of selling price.


6. Takes inventory by counting all items and compiling information.


7. Stocks shelves with textbooks and various supplies.


8. Assists with reconciling orders, statements and check requests to pay outstanding invoices to publishers.


9. Special orders textbooks and supplies for customers.


10. Assist students with online textbook orders, which includes responding to inquiries and processing online textbook orders for pickup or delivery.


B. Coordinates with publishers and faculty for textbook ordering.

1. Orders text and supplies by telephone, fax, and when available, by computer.


2. Corresponds with publishers and vendors by phone, mail, fax and computer.


3. Assists with handling order and credit problems with publishers.


4. Assists with book returns to publishers for credit.


5. Any other tasks as deemed necessary by the manager.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School diploma; 3-4 years related experience, preferably in retail; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to perform clerical and sales duties associated with a retail environment; ability to communicate with tact and courtesy and to establish good relationships with students, staff, publishers, vendors, and the general public; ability to work under pressure; ability to lift cartons of textbooks and supplies; ability to operate a cash register, calculator and computer.


WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Normal store environment including heavy lifting of cartons containing books and supplies. Must be able to work flexible hours with some evenings and weekends.
