Position Description:
Responsible and accountable for developing strategies, plans, and operational guidelines for Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona’s (GCNA) in Arizona and Maryland environmental, safety, health, and injury management programs. Responsible for all operations designed to protect Team Member health and safety or promote environmental compliance. Responsible for all fleet operations. Works cross-functionally with the Claims, Asset Protection (AP), Finance, and Retail Store teams, as well as other departments to mitigate risks related to workers compensation and general liability claims while keeping customers and Team Members safe. Collaborates internally and externally to bring innovative solutions, positively impacting safety awareness and fiscal goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manages budget adherence in order to maintain cost controls associated with safety.
  • Oversees field Asset Protection, Safety, and fleet team.
  • Partners with business area leaders and other support personnel to develop and implement an annual safety plan that focuses on strategic initiatives establishing and maintaining a safety-conscious work environment.
  • Analyzes Asset Protection, Safety, and Fleet Data to determine where to focus resources.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of Asset Protection, Safety, Crisis Management/Business Continuity, and Fleet Programs.
  • Develops, manages, and oversees target shrink/profit leakage programs for high risk locations.
  • Conducts periodic AP & Safety visits with Regional & District AP/Safety Managers.
  • Oversees company’s Safety Program to achieve safety objectives while mitigating risks.
  • Identifies and develops safety programs, procedures, and standards for new business lines.
  • Sets measurable safety objectives, performs program evaluations and reports to meet industry Safety/Risk standards.
  • Monitors safety KPIs for Retail and Distribution locations. Monitors and reports statistical data relating to company accidents, injuries, etc., in compliance with company and industry standards. Ensures compliance with company‘s safety policies and procedures.
  • Oversees regulated waste disposal process in stores and distribution centers (universal waste, industrial waste, state hazardous waste). Monitors and communicates scheduling and progress of disposal pickups and ensures completions within required timelines. Maintains bills of lading and/or shipping manifests for completed disposals, as required. Validates invoices to ensure accurate billing and timely payment.
  • Utilizes various computer and data entry skills on a daily basis when working in an assortment of safety, environment, and asset protection systems with a strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Performs safety evaluations, job hazard analysis and safety observations as a reaction to incidents or in a proactive role as requested by departmental leadership.
  • Manages all governmental safety compliance (OSHA, AOSH, etc.) responses and correspondence.
  • Partners with Training Department to develop, implement, and periodically review company safety training via the learning management system.
  • Coordinates the company’s Return to Work and OSHA recordkeeping programs and interface with occupational health care providers.
  • Develops and maintains vendor relationships in relation to safety needs.
  • Supports Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) certification process by ensuring safety policies and safety programs meet or exceed internal company and industrial standards.
  • Plans, implements policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Transportation (DOT), as well as other regulations and safety standards are all jurisdictions the company operates.
  • Identifies safety innovations as well as best practices and implements based on company needs.
  • Establishes an organizational culture that values safety accident prevention, and change management processes.

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills):
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, industrial safety and health, safety engineering, or safety management, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 8 years of experience in Safety, which includes at least 5 years of directing and leading large safety programs across multiple facilities totaling thousands of employees.
  • Asset Protection/Loss Prevention experience preferred.
  • Industry designations such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of Environmental, Safety, DOT and OSHA, Worker’s Compensation regulations and compliance.
  • Knowledge with state and federal rules which apply to workplace health and safety especially in nonmanufacturing conditions.
  • Strong program management skills and the ability to work in an open and consultative manner.
  • Demonstrates strong verbal, written, and analytical skills as well as have the ability to interact effectively with Corporate Executives, Team Leaders and Team Members in order to drive change through all levels of the organization.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Results oriented, history of proven success.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Valid drivers' license and clean MVR.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen, where applicable for position.
