Phoenix College (PC), the first public junior college in Arizona, welcomed its first students on September 13, 1920. In 1962, PC transitioned to a community college that is part of the Maricopa Community College District. Job Summary


Working within a learning college environment, this position directs the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), leads the CTL team, and provides vision and oversight for faculty development including ascertaining and evaluating appropriate support, resources, programming, and training opportunities for the design, delivery, and assessment of teaching and learning. This position is responsible for the department’s strategic and operational planning, as well as the continuous improvement of professional development offerings and services to support faculty across the college in teaching excellence, leadership, and innovation.

Essential Functions


40% - CTL Leadership and Management: Develops and implements the strategic direction of the CTL; provides leadership and supervision for CTL staff; develops and manages the CTL budget, tracks expenditures, and authorizes CTL purchases; evaluates current and future needs; analyzes needed resources and their costs; evaluates CTL programming for continuous improvement; attends appropriate training, department meetings, college committees; represents the college at appropriate district-wide meetings to inform and support CTL operations


25% - Instructional Design, Technology, & Support:
Consults with and serves as a resource to faculty in the design, development, and continuous improvement of teaching and learning including equity-minded instructional strategies to meet the needs of learners from different backgrounds (race, ethnicity, abilities, gender, sexual orientation, etc.); researches and recommends new instructional technologies; ensures appropriate training and support structures are in place for established and new pedagogical methods and instructional technologies; supports faculty in the development and selection of course materials (with special consideration for OER, copyright, universal design for learning, accessibility, etc.)

25% - Distance Learning Collaboration & Support: Collaborates with the college Distance Learning Coordinator and Distance Learning Committee to support distance learning quality assurance efforts guided by the college’s Distance Learning Plan and Distance Learning Expectations; coordinates Quality Matters (QM) and other distance learning quality initiatives; provides LMS support; coordinates with other CTL Directors and Distance Learning Coordinators to inform District initiatives related to distance learning

10% - Professional Development: Collaborates with the college's Faculty Developer(s) to ensure the CTL provides programming in various training modalities (workshops, courses, panels, dialogue days, webinars, etc.) that align to the themes of the Professional Development Plan, as well as any additional identified faculty needs; promotes CTL events and services; identifies and promotes external professional development opportunities; solicits and integrates feedback from faculty and college leadership to inform professional development programming

Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, educational leadership or instructional design, or related field; six (6) years of experience in educational leadership or instructional design and development, that includes two years of supervisory experience and program development and evaluation.

OR

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, educational leadership or instructional design, or related field; eight (8) years of experience in educational leadership or instructional design and development, that includes two years of supervisory experience and program development and evaluation.

OR

High school diploma or GED and ten (10) years of experience in educational leadership or instructional design and development, that includes two years of supervisory experience and program development and evaluation.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in instructional design, organizational development, educational leadership, curriculum development, instructional technology, instructional psychology, or higher education administration.
  • Five (5) or more years management/leadership experience in a Center for Teaching and Learning (or equivalent).
  • Five (5) or more years of full-time experience in instructional design in higher education.
  • Five (5) or more years of full-time experience in evaluating, implementing, and supporting instructional technologies including administrative responsibilities and user support of a learning management system.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience designing, developing, and delivering professional development.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience teaching in higher education including in an online modality.
  • Peer or Master Review certification in Quality Matters or similar; current or within the last two years.
  • Effective written communication skills as evidenced in application materials (cover letter and resume)

Special Working Conditions

  • May be required to work morning, day, afternoon, evening and/or weekends.
  • May be required to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds such as computer equipment.
  • May be required to sit for a prolonged period of time; viewing a computer monitor.
