The Transport Specialist is in control of all aspects of the inter-facility transport. The specialist will be required to work 15 twenty-four hour shifts per month, and respond to emergency medical calls while on duty. The transport specialist will work at the station during regular business hours, unless a transport is paged out. Discretion for hours worked is given due to the unpredictable nature of the interfacility transport work. I.E. If an overnight transport occurs, the specialist is not expected to be present at the station the following day. The Transport Specialist is responsible for carrying out the duties imposed by Federal, State, or local laws, rules regulations, codes, standards or ordinances including applicable medical protocols. The specialists main functional role is the emergency medical care of patients while being transported to and from area hospitals. Specialists will be paid a pre-taxed per diem rate depending on destination, to offset the cost of meals and increase overall pay. Specialists will also receive a $1000 increase per year bonus that will cap at 4 years, for a maximum of $4000 per year above base salary to offset the cost of health insurance.

The Transport Specialist will develop and maintain relationships with area hospitals and actively look for and implement improvements to the interfacility system. The Specialist is responsible for the inventory and maintenance of EMS equipment and apparatus involved with IFTs. The Specialist is a “front line” position, meaning the specialist will respond and perform at their level of care to medical emergencies within SFFR district.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent emergency medical care
  • Respond to requests for interfacility transports from local hospitals.
  • Respond to 911 calls within district, as available
  • Maintain inventory and readiness of interfacility and 911 ambulances
  • Document complete and accurate patient care reports on Image trend.
  • Record expenses and fuel receipts as required.
  • Participate in SFFR functions and station duties as applicable.
  • Leads by example, by maintaining high ethics, morality, and integrity, and always displaying the values of SFFR.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications

  • EMT-P or EMT-I99 Colorado or National certification
  • Valid drivers license
  • CPR / First Aid
  • ACLS / PALS
  • ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 or ability to obtain.
