Mathematics credential with English Learner Authorization required. This is a Teacher on Special Assignment position for a High School Math Content Specialist.

Minimum Qualifications

SFUSD requires all teachers to hold or be pursuing a valid California teaching credential and an English Learner or Bilingual Authorization. We welcome applications from teachers who have not yet received their credentials, and our Credentials Team is happy to work with each teacher who's accepted a position in SFUSD to apply for permits that allow them to teach while pursuing a credential.

Desired Qualifications

The High School Mathematics Content Specialist is designed to provide a diverse array of services and activities guided by the SFUSD Mission and Goals that 1) support the effective district-wide implementation of the SFUSD Mathematics Core Curriculum, 2) guide the improvement of the quality of mathematics instruction within a school, and 3) orchestrate a range of professional learning activities for teachers of mathematics. The job of Mathematics Content Specialist includes, but is not limited to:

  • Collaborating with district and partner mathematics educators with the goal of bringing coherence to PK-12 mathematics instruction across the entire district;
  • Identifying tools and resources that support quality mathematics instruction and facilitate analysis of student achievement;
  • Promoting, organizing, and supporting professional interaction among teachers;
  • Modeling effective instructional practices;
  • Providing guidance and direction on how to address the issues of race/ethnicity, language, and culture in a mathematics classroom;
  • Acting as co-planner, co-teacher and/or co-assessor, with colleagues;
  • Serving as observer, and subsequently, as provider of constructive critique of practice;
  • Supporting 2 – 3 induction teachers with direct coaching support; and
  • Performing related duties as assigned.

Mathematics Content Specialists are supervised by the SFUSD Mathematics Supervisor and Program Administrator. The team works closely together towards a shared vision of a mathematically powerful classroom.
