Come join the Shiloh House team as a youth care worker for our new Unaccompanied Refugee Minor (URM) Residential Treatment Program!

This entry level position is a great way to launch your career in counseling, mental health, social services, psychology, behavioral health and human services as a counselor, therapist, mental health technician, mental health therapist, mental health counselor and substance abuse counselor.

Program Description:

For over 30 years, Shiloh House has been a leading force in providing trauma-informed behavioral health treatment and support for vulnerable youth and families in Colorado. The URM Residential Treatment Program is our newest innovative program tailored to serve the needs of unaccompanied refugee minors arriving to Colorado. This group home setting will house male refugee youths ages 14 - 18 who have resettled to Colorado. Day to day programming focuses on cross-cultural learning, language acquisition, emotional adjustment, and independent living skills.

Shifts:

  • Days: Sunday-Wednesday or Wednesday-Saturday
  • Overnights: Saturday-Tuesday or Tuesday-Friday
  • Part time float positions are also available (may require travel to all locations)

Location: Commerce City, CO

Specific Duties:

  • Facilitate program activities that build independent living skills and promote cultural and emotional adjustment
  • Supervise clients in the home and provide intensive behavior management interventions when necessary
  • Implement and maintain structure within the program through daily routine activities
  • Thoroughly document program activities and client progress to state standards
  • Maintain a positive atmosphere in the milieu by demonstrating strong verbal de-escalation and healthy personal boundaries
  • Act as a role model and mentor to URM residents
  • Basic meal preparation and light housekeeping
  • Conduct daily room inspections and15-minute bed checks with a focus on safety and security
  • Transport clients to and from school, activities, appointments, etc.
  • Attend treatment team and required trainings

Compensation: In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the expected salary range for this Colorado position is between $21.50-$28.75 per hour. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job related factors permitted by law.
Compensation is based on location/shift:

  • Commerce City: Starting wage at $21.50 - $26.75
  • Overnights all campuses: $23.00 - $28.75
Requirements:
  • Must have a professional mentality
  • Must have a Bachelor's Degree and/or 2 years experience working with the youth
  • Must be at least 23 years of age (will consider 21 years of age)
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check
  • Must hold a valid Colorado driver’s license or have the ability to obtain one
  • Must meet agency MVR criteria
  • Professional or academic experience working with youth in education, mental health, behavioral health, case management, or another closely related field
  • Ability to provide a safe and caring environment for youth who require guidance, supervision and hope
  • Crisis management skills and ability to keep calm in high stress situations
  • Ability to communicate across cultural and linguistic barriers
  • Ability to act as a strong, positive role model for URM youth
  • Ability to maintain strong professional boundaries with URM youth while providing care and support
  • Understanding of the psychological effects of trauma on youth and ability to identify the root causes of problematic behaviors
  • **Experience as a treatment counselor or mental health counselor a plus
  • **Experience in the human services, social services, counseling, therapist, psychology arena a plus
