BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB:

Performs a variety of semi-skilled work to maintain water wells, chemical feeder equipment, pumps, motors, telemetry sensory equipment, treated water storage facilities, water distribution pipelines and related appurtenances, sanitary sewers for the collection of wastewater, pumping equipment for water and wastewater, and water and wastewater treatment plant equipment and operations. Performs moderate technical and mechanical work in the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment and conveyance facilities. Conducts all company work related efforts and activities within the rules, regulations and responsibilities of the most current company safety policy and OHSA regulation. This position also provides technical and/or physical assistance to other operations personnel, contractors, developers and any other duties assigned. Additionally, the operator may be subject to on-call work, emergency call back work and subject to shift work that may include nights and weekends.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Demonstrates a continuous effort to improve operations by streamlining work processes, decreasing turnaround times, and working cooperatively and jointly to provide efficiency and excellence in the use of Utility resources.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and locate difficulties in a variety of utility collection systems including disassembling and repairing pumps, valves, analyzers, feeders, gauges, and other related equipment.
  • Delivers outstanding customer service. Establishes and maintains open communication with all internal and external customers; to include co-workers, contractors, residents, and other Utility departments. Informs immediate supervisor of daily operations, important developments, and work activities.
  • Install pumps for use in lift stations; maintain and repair lift stations as necessary.
  • Perform routine tests; log results and maintain accurate records.
  • Adheres to industry and Utility safety standards, policies, practices, and procedures. Provides services in accordance with all applicable regulatory requirements..
  • Executes routine and emergency operational, maintenance, construction, and repair functions of infrastructure or equipment utilized in the wastewater reclamation division.
  • Operates all equipment used in wastewater reclamation/collection facilities including pumps, motors, sewer cleaning equipment, tank trucks, various tools, disinfection, odor control, and flow regulating devices. Maintains the integrity of landscaping, checks wet wells and electrical panels, adjusts chemical feed rates, and completes work orders.
  • Conducts daily inspections of reclamation/collection facilities; process sampling, logs daily records; interprets readings from meters, gauges, charts, and instruments, and adjusts accordingly; and detects mechanical or process deficiencies and communicates findings to the supervisor.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Formal Education / Knowledge: Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to of high school degree or equivalency.

Experience: Minimum six months experience in a related field.

Certifications and Other Requirements: ADEQ Grade I Operator License in specific area of concentration; i.e, Wastewater Treatment, Water Distribution, Collections, or Water Treatment. Must possess Grade 1 or higher State of Arizona Wastewater Collections Operator Certification.

Must possess a valid Class B Arizona Driver’s License and have a clean driving record. Possession of a tanker endorsement is required.

Reading: Work requires the ability to read maps, manuals, work orders, and blueprints.

Math: Work requires the ability to perform Industry Specific general math calculations.

Writing: Work requires the ability to write work orders, memos, letters, reports and keep accurate daily records at well sites, lift stations and treatment facilities.

Managerial: Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others but may provide advice/direction to an employee with less experience/skill.

Budget Responsibility:Ability to complete repairs and tasks in a timely fashion.

Complexity: Work is widely varied, involving analyzing and evaluating many complex and significant variables.

Policy/Decision Making: The employee normally performs the duty assignment after receiving detailed instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results with little room for deviation. The immediate supervisor may, at times, provide close and constant review.

Technical Skills: Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization. Limited analysis and independent thinking is utilized.

This position requires you to drive a company vehicle without any restrictions in order to be covered under our liability policy.

Salary: $20.75/hr to $30.75/hr. DOE
