Member’s Duties: The Neighborhood Development Corporation of Akron (NDCA) was formed in 1970 by the City of Akron to implement the objectives of the Akron Model City Plan, to provide low and moderate income housing, to provide technical assistance to low and moderate income neighborhood groups, to provide contingency funding to assist low income residents, to establish communication and housing education programs, to establish a housing evaluation system, to induce the construction industry and unions to hire, train and facilitate neighborhood residents and minorities and to establish a housing assistance, design and relocation center. The NDCA sub-site VISTA member will design, implement and execute a marketing program that will persuade the target population of low-income tenants of Channelwood Village (CWV) to live heathier lives with better nutrition, reduce the consumption of energy and water resources, and participants will profit by reduced expenditures for tenant-paid utilities.
