Summary:

Responsible for the generation of quality solid models and 2D engineering drawings; the acquisition, maintenance, and use of an intimate knowledge of company approved engineering drafting standards and procedures. Suggests product improvements; maintains knowledge of the products and their proper application; keeps abreast of any technological changes which affect the company’s product.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Applies knowledge of the product to specific applications.
  • Makes certain calculations on tolerance stack-up of multi-component systems, strengths of materials, and related dimensional changes to the design.
  • Ability to update and maintain product spreadsheets for new or existing products.
  • Prepares layouts and detail drawings of new or modified parts.
  • Is responsible for selection of “hardware” items such as bearings, screws, snap rings, etc.
  • Prepares Bills of Material for these product and engineering changes, releases, Product Development Requests (PDR’s).
  • Performs assigned tasks related to engineering design.
  • Confers with Engineering Manager and/or department engineers to resolve design problems and to prepare accurate solid models and 2D engineering drawings.
  • Use PC, telephone, 2D and 3D CAD systems, SAP ERP system, and other common office equipment.
  • Keep work area in a clean and orderly condition

Job Requirements:

Critical Competencies:

  • Experienced in the use of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information and respond to questions from groups of employees, managers, and potentially customers.
  • The ability to calculate tolerance stack-ups
  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • 2 year Associate Degree in Mechanical Design or equivalent education and experience, required
  • 3+ years design AutoCAD software as well as Solidworks, required
  • 1+ yearsPrevious experience using SAP ERP System, preferred
  • 1+ years Solid Modeling, FEA and other Engineering software, preferred
