Schedule: 28 Hours, Nights

The Nursing Supervisor is an integrate member of the Department of Nursing Leadership Team. She/he functions to provide supervision of professional care to infant, toddler, latent, adolescent, and the occasional adult patients using nursing practice theory that is evidenced based and in accordance with Franciscan Children’s (FC) policies and procedures. Participation in and assist in assuring hospital readiness for all accreditation and voluntary surveys.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Assumes responsibility for the supervision and development of nursing staff.

Interprets and enforces general hospital and nursing department polices to nursing staff.

Consults with charge nurses about patient needs based on patient census, patient activity, patient acuity, patient/staff ratio, and skill level of individual staff members.

Supervises nursing care delivered to patients. Reinforces nursing policies, procedures, and standards of care.

Serves as a resource person by providing clinical expertise to all nursing staff.

Ensures that staffing needs are fulfilled for each shift; coordinates appointment planning with charge nurses to assure patient's needs are met for out of hospital appointments.

Participates in nursing management meetings and projects.

Trains and orients new staff to departmental policies and procedures.

Completes, processes, and follows up on safety reports as needed.

Demonstrates competency in assessment and treatment of patients 0-22 years of age. Demonstrates the ability to assist in patient care when needed.

Accurately documents written information on problems and issues according to department and hospital policy.

Communicates issues, concerns, information to appropriate managers, program directors, department by direct conversation, voice message or email.

Lifts and transports patients, weighing up to 200 pounds, and pushes and carries patient care equipment, or assists with these activities, using safe body mechanics.

Successfully completes hospital and department specific orientation and ongoing mandatory education requirements.

Responds to patient needs or emergencies throughout all areas of the hospital based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol; completes documentation as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

· Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required.

· Licensure as a Massachusetts registered nurse.

· Certification in CPR

· Current Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Training must be maintained yearly.

· Minimum of 5 years Pediatric experience

SKILLS AND ABILIIIES:

· Has knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, and procedures as applied to the care of the patient population served.

· Has specialized skill in maintaining, operating, and monitoring complex equipment.

· Enhances ongoing nursing development through active participation in FC Simulation Program with Nursing Education; using simulation scenarios to teach and define best practices and standards.

· Have a working knowledge of nursing theory and the practice of Family Centered Care

· Collaborates with senior nursing management to coordinate care, manage resources, oversees safety and quality.

· Lead, support and build on current efforts of various groups working within the organization to support the mission:

· Participates in daily operational activities to provide a safe patient environment.

· Act as a liaison between patients, families, and physicians

· Exhibits effective communication abilities.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35.75 - $50.00 per hour
