POSITION: Community Health Representative

SALARY: $19.04 - $22.08, per hour

REPORTS TO: Heathcare Operations Director

LOCATION: Nespelem, WA


Basic Functions:

Responsible to improve the health knowledge, attitudes and practices of Indian people by promoting, supporting and assisting the healthcare systems delivering a total health care program.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education and Training:

  • Requires a High School diploma or equivalent and two years’ experience in providing direct health, social, educational services, or care to a vulnerable population.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • The position requires knowledge of local demographics to include Community and Health Care Resources, Community Disease profiles, and Cultural norms and practices. Requires knowledge of State Traffic Laws, Vehicle Maintenance and Safety. Requires knowledge in health promotion strategies associated with a community wide population group.
  • Requires knowledge of providing preventative services, including counseling, screening, and immunizations.
  • Requires knowledge of medical terminology and technology used in providing essential health care services.
  • Requires knowledge of Native American Cultures as it relates to clientele served.
  • Skills in defensive driving techniques, and minor vehicle repair.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively specific health identifiers, issues, practice, prevention, dangers of uncontrolled health issues, and how to live with specific Health issues.
  • Requires the ability to collect analyze, interpret and disseminate essential health data in order to understand the health status of the population and to plan effective prevention programs.
  • Requires the ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in applying guidelines to work situations.
  • Requires the ability to meet and greet the public in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Requires the ability to execute sound judgment in stressful situations, including crisis intervention and emergencies such as sexual abuse, alcoholism, suicide, accidents, death and violence.
  • Requires the ability to serve as a client advocate to ensure continuity of care in addition to enhancing an advocacy role with local and non-local agencies.
  • Requires the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Requires the ability to execute complex written and oral instructions.
  • Requires the ability to communicate with target groups such as children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly.
  • Requires the ability to execute pertinent screening mechanisms to ensure early detection of disease or conditions requiring medical attention such as hypertension, TB, and pregnancy.
  • Requires the ability to assist and follow up, and home health assessments dehydration and living conditions.
  • Requires the ability to recognize, evaluate, and promote the control of biological, chemical, and physical factors, injury control, communicable disease, community clean up, and rabies control, which have an adverse effect on the population’s health.
  • Requires the ability to maintain utmost confidentiality and ability to sign a confidentiality agreement.
  • Requires the ability to obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR certification and defensive driving training.
  • Requires the ability to learn behavior modification techniques.
  • Requires the ability to travel and attend training.
  • Requires the ability to function in an office environment, outside environments, clientele home environment and long hours of driving in a vehicle engaged in work of a predominately active nature with some risk.
  • Requires sufficient physical ability to move to work locations.
  • Requires the ability to grasp, reach, push, and pull and lift 50 pounds or more.
  • Requires sufficient arm, hand, finger dexterity to use a personal computer keyboard, multimedia, and other office equipment.
  • Requires sufficient hearing and speaking skills to project voice and communicate with staff and clients in small group settings and in one-on-one conversations.
  • Requires visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens.
  • Requires the ability to work a non-standard schedule; holidays, weekends, evenings and extended shifts.
  • Requires the ability to work in Natural Disasters

Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.


TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.


If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
