Job description

DSP needed to work one-on-one with a 27-year-old young man with autism in a vocational day-program setting. This individual is verbal, has a very happy personality, and requires support to maintain attention to a task. Ideal candidate will have experience working with autism and utilizing ABA principles and will value the opportunity to work as part of a dynamic and vibrant team enriching the lives of adults with disabilities in an abilities-focused day program.

• Hours - 8:30am – 3:00pm, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday – 19.5 hours (potential for full time hours - afternoon and evening home support hours available).
• Location - Friendship Home Inc., Norwell, MA
• Pay - $18.00 per hour
• Hiring bonus - up to $1,000 (prorated based on position type)

Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 support, assistance and instruction to a 27-year-old young man with autism to facilitate growth, self-sufficiency and independence through enriching activities and opportunities
• Work collaboratively with the other team and staff members to strengthen service delivery for the individual, as well as the other members in the program.
• Implement a strength-based support plan that is creative and responsive to the individual’s needs and goals.
• Work directly with the individual in a group and 1:1 setting, providing supports to enhance social skills, safety skills, and attention.
• Create and use visual supports and social stories.
• Serve as Job Coach for the individual in two off-site employment opportunities.
• Communicate information between family, day program, and employers.
• Provide regular transportation to and from home in Duxbury to day program / job sites using personal vehicle.

Requirements

• Experience and/or education in autism with demonstrated ability to create and implement intervention strategies to address maladaptive behavior.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
• Strong leadership skills
• Willingness to learn, accept constructive feedback, and bring new ideas and resources.
• Positive attitude
• Valid MA driver’s license with clear driving record, and ability to provide transportation for individual using personal vehicle.
