The Director of Monitoring & Observability will focus on the roadmap of AmerisourceBergen IT journey toward enterprise-wide observability and monitoring. Individual has responsibility for activities that drive to planning, creating, and implementing an IT Monitoring & Observability vision and strategy aligned with the company’s strategic business plan.
This role with the help of IT Architects also drives and oversees the development of enterprise standards and technology initiatives, and the IT governance & lifecycle process. Success in the role requires combination of experience setting up robust enterprise-wide visibility along with managing & improving the maturity of existing or newly created solutions and practices.
This key role will also provide technical and business leadership to their team, stakeholders as well as to the business.
  • Leading a team of highly skilled Observability Engineers with a focus to both Infrastructure and Application visibility
  • Drives team culture for automation first approach across IT Operations department.
  • Drives interviewing and staff selection process and the supervision and performance management of team members.
  • Prioritizes and monitors team training, development and growth to support individual, team and department goals.
  • Monitors, assesses, and identifies strategies & opportunities to improve processes, services, systems, and analysis.
  • Ensures good climate within the team and timely feedback, healthy challenge culture and support for obstacles removal and continuous progression.
  • Synthesizing the needs of our stakeholders into clear operational roadmaps and execution plans.
  • Implements and maintains effective interfaces with other parts of Shared IT stakeholders.
  • Constantly keep up with industry data trends and drive high performing teams
  • Provide escalated support for high profile issues.
  • Present to executive management on team initiatives, progress, and pain points.
  • Work with cross functional peers to ensure department and stakeholder Monitoring & Observability needs are met.
  • Approaches issues or disagreements with the objective of reaching win/win solutions.
  • Ensures inter-department relationships are at the top of its level.
  • Measures service providers performance and ensures improvements are implemented.
  • Interacts with industry groups and consultants for the purpose of exchanging information and staying abreast of technological changes and advancements pertinent to the IT Reliability management disciplines.
What your background should look like
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Normally requires a minimum of seven (7) or more years of progressively responsible related experience managing tools, monitoring & observability, or reliability engineering teams
  • Requires experience in managing teams and building relationships with people at a variety of levels.
  • Dynamic leadership and management experience of multi-disciplined teams with various priorities
  • Past experience as a technical expert in data analytics, monitoring & observability, etc. prior to leadership/management
  • Past experience scaling platforms, teams, and processes while maintaining world class quality
  • Driven development of a technical strategy and roadmap to elevate the monitoring platforms, and analytic capabilities driving automated responses
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate and execute business strategies to exceed operational expectations and further enhance the customer experience.
  • Deep understanding of business strategy and ability to translate strategy into system and technology solutions.
  • Requires “hands on” experience working in large-scale environments and tweaking business processes to support growth and productivity
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change, able to take calculated risk and seeks continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated ability in building a successful organization and experience delivering results via improved customer satisfaction, lower production costs and high levels of employee engagement
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to communicate with customers, associates and management; solid teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Strong presentation skills; ability to present and discuss strategies and technical information in a manner that establishes rapport, persuades others, and gains understanding
  • Ability to establish solid relationships with vendors in support of initiatives; ability to negotiate and manage outside vendors against deliverables.
  • Solid project management skills including the ability to effectively deploy resources and manage multiple projects of various diverse scope in a cross-functional environment
