TRANSIT DISPATCHER- DAY SHIFT

Job Title: TEMPORARY DISPATCHER-DAY SHIFT

Hours: 9AM TO 4:30PM Monday-Friday with 2 hour lunch break

Occupational Summary

This role will support Duke Transit operations for buses and mini bus operations on campus. It will involve communications with Duke operators, incoming phone calls to the department, dispatch inquiries and specialized needs. This position will support the daily operations of Duke Transit via coordination from management. Communication involving operating a two-way radio, telephones and email is essential.

Work Performed

Operate two-way radio, dispatch telephone line, email and incoming requests from departments to make sure operationally our transit and departmental needs /procedures are met daily; determine priority of calls/radio inquiries received and assign responsibilities to appropriate personnel. Maintain daily log of all incoming and outgoing radio and phone calls, assign equipment requests to operators and assist with special requests.

Provide information about Duke Transit programs/routes to employees and the general Duke community; relay a variety of information relative regarding daily activities to appropriate personnel; maintaining position as liaison with departments and Duke community regarding inquiries.

Coordinate the activities of the operators on a given shift; schedule responsibilities and notify drivers of duties; post assignments, equipment needs and information advised by management.

Issue regular and special equipment to drivers as needed; ensure all equipment is in working order and recommend equipment repair to fleet maintenance as needed.

Record a variety of data logs and maintain a file of reports, forms, records, incident/accident forms, and daily operational logs.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein or advised by management.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires the ability to communicate in an efficient manner and operate two-way radio, assign equipment and transmit information generally acquired through a high school education.

Experience

Work requires one year of experience in a related position to become familiar with dispatching procedures and accepted operational practices involved in communication as well as maintaining logs and files.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Skills

Good Customer service skills, ability to multitask, handle complaints and dispatch within a union environment.
