Description: The Early Childhood Teacher is responsible for providing the education and care of a classroom of students as part of a teaching team. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position with a minimum of a 45-hour work week.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain an enriching curriculum and an aesthetically pleasing classroom environment following the Reggio Emilia guidelines and philosophies.
  • Teach using the Multiple Intelligences brain-based learning approach.
  • Maintain an integrated curriculum using the Project Approach.
  • Provide support, challenge, have patience, and enthusiasm while guiding students to new levels of competence.
  • Use and promote positive guidance and behavior management techniques
  • Always practice appropriate communication and interactions with children.
  • Utilize nature and the outdoor Discovery Play Garden as a learning extension of the classroom.
  • Implement cultural diversity and Character Counts! into the curriculum.
  • Incorporate developmentally appropriate technology into the classroom.
  • Implement and be knowledgeable on a healthy and safe environment following the Fia Mia Academy Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Conduct informative and purposeful parent-teacher conferences, effectively communicating child’s development and assessment.
  • Host informative and purposeful Curriculum Open Houses.
  • Always implement excellent customer service practices.
  • Displays children's work and documenting appropriately in an aesthetically pleasing way.
  • Promote healthy eating practices through the Fia Mia Academy nutritious meals and snacks program. Serve lunch and snacks practicing safe food handling.
  • Maintain a professional image, behavior and conduct at all times.
  • Promote the school’s philosophy and educational objectives.
  • Incorporate constructive direction from directors and staff to improve job performance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 19 years of age.
  • Hold an undergraduate degree in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, or similar. Sixty semester hours (or 90 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development, from birth to age six; or one year (1560 clock hours) of child development experience in a nursery school, Kindergarten, or licensed day care center and 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development, from birth to age six.
  • Must have experience at a licensed daycare facility.
  • Must meet state specific requirements for the role.
  • Have CPR or First Aid Certification or the willingness to obtain.
  • Demonstrate the following leadership qualities: self-motivation, self-directed, able to make sound decisions, flexible, creative, reliable, dependable and have a strong work ethic.
  • Strong knowledge of early childhood education.
  • Strong technology skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Have a current (No older than six months prior to hire) physical examination and TB skin test.
  • Ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, the ability to see and read newsprint with or without corrective lenses, to speak and be understood using clear communication.
  • Ability to lift and carry children and other items weighing up to 50 pounds; and the use of hands, arms, legs and feet with or without corrective devices to accomplish the job, including evacuation of children from the school building during emergencies.
