The Industrial – Weitz Professional Services business unit is seeking Engineering Manager to be located out of the Minneapolis, Minnesota office.


The Engineering Manager ensures all projects are executed and led in a profitable, high-quality and strategic manner from preconstruction through final commissioning. This role performs as the Engineering Manager on multiple projects or one large project. This position reports to the Segment Leader and manages multiple designers, structural engineers and engineering project managers.


What You'll Do Everyday:

  • Review and approve all preconstruction engineering efforts
  • Lead customers and engineering project teams throughout the development and delivery of assigned projects
  • Approve engineering budgets and schedules while profitably managing all estimating, administrative and engineering activities
  • Lead end of project meetings to identify successes and improvements; establish and implement policies for future projects
  • Encourage staff members to challenge the status quo by identifying alternative concepts, designs, cost or time saving measures; review and approve identified methods to present to project teams
  • Manage engineering department budget
  • Develop and execute engineering operating plan
  • Produce and manage engineering projects that are practical and economical high-quality designs in accordance with industrial and engineering department standards and construction estimates
  • Approve usage of third party engineering firms
  • Direct the business development of engineering and construction services to clients
  • Keep abreast of latest industry technology and techniques including trade-specific continuing education, trainings, etc.; educate team members on findings
  • Maintain positive relationships with clients, vendors, subcontractors and co-workers; initiate third party relationships when opportunities arise
  • Perform other duties as dictated by the needs of the project
  • Business travel will be required

What We're Looking For:


To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each previously stated duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and ability necessary to succeed in this role.

  • Education: An Associate's degree is required; Industry related Bachelor's degree is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Professional Engineer (PE) License is valuable in this role.
  • Experience: A minimum of fifteen (15) years' extensive experience designing or acting in an engineering project management role. Experience in the food, agricultural, plant design or material handling and process systems industry is necessary. LEAN principles experience and ability to apply principles is desirable. OSHA 10 or 30 Hour certification is preferred, or the willingness to obtain upon hire.
  • Technology: Proficiency in basic computer software programs such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. Employee should have experience with coordination and complete modeling within Revit and AutoCAD, and have the ability to learn other specific software (JDE, Procore, Bluebeam, etc.).
  • Skills: A qualified candidate will demonstrate analytical and problem solving skills, team leadership, proven management ability, negotiation, relationship building, construction knowledge and business acumen. Effective communication, project management, judgment, initiative, time management, attention to detail, flexibility, and organizational skills are necessary skills for this position.
