The Role


THE ROLE

This position will collaborate across various functions within Commercial Buildings & Infrastructure (CBI) business to ensure sustainability data is accurately captured and included at all levels of the decision-making process. This newly created position will participate in the CertainTeed CBI leadership team in an advisory capacity, holds significant influence in the business and will work closely with the corporate sustainability team. This role is accountable for clarifying, formalizing and elevating Product Stewardship in the business.

  • Lead sustainability and product stewardship efforts for CertainTeed Commercial Building & Infrastructure
  • Develop and lead PS roadmap for CBI business: work across all functional groups (product, R&D, supply chain, operations, etc.) to identify and quantify levers available to reach 2030 and 2050 sustainability goals.
  • Implementation & maintenance of Saint Gobain & Saint Gobain North America (SGNA) processes and tools for compliance
  • Lead PS guidance to CBI business regarding compliance with EPA, REACH, Prop 65 and other global regulations that govern Saint-Gobain products.
  • Perform analyses to help guide product development and operational decisions through data
  • Review environmental impact assessments and validate claims
  • Work closely with other business unit Product Stewards, EHS and Technical/Customer Service/Sales/R&D/Marketing organizations in the areas of product registration, monitoring and measuring product risk profiles, product compliance certifications, product footprint, and sustainable design.
  • Establish a regulatory focus on PS and have a future vision for what good looks like to create a robust PS culture.
  • Understand and reduce environmental impact with data while minimizing impact to bottom line

  • Track material usage and environmental impact while improving operational efficiency (I.e. reduction of waste, improvements to supply chain, source cleaner materials)
  • Identify areas for innovation and present clear paths for implementation in existing or planned future CertainTeed CBI business
  • Understand customer, NGO, and industry transparency requirements and communicating those requirements to the businesses
  • Lead and facilitate the production of product Life Cycle Assessments and transparency declarations (Health Product Declarations (HPDs or equivalent) and environmental product declarations (EPDs) necessary for market participation of products in NA
  • Stay well informed on competitors and industry trends related to environmental impact
  • Reviewing LCA data with stakeholders and assessing hot spot areas of improvement to share with Business level teams for the sustainability road map.
  • Development of Hydrogen (H2) and Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) markets

  • Researching Product Category Rules (PCRs) and industry standards
  • Advocacy work, including monitoring regulations and new industry standards
  • Support reporting of circularity, recycled content, embodied carbon, and other product sustainability attributes on customer facing websites and tools

Requirements


REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Product Stewardship, Regulatory Science, Science, Technical or Chemical Engineering Degree
  • Master’s Degree in Business-related technology or Business Administration, preferred
  • 5 years of Product Stewardship and/or Sustainability experience
  • 5 years of Building industry experience in progressive leadership positions
  • Familiar with manufacturing environments and common industrial process equipment including EHS&S protocols
  • Demonstrated use of statistical and analytical data analytical tools, data analysis and drawing conclusions based on a collection of basic data and interpretation, IP, Patents, and technical documents
  • Understanding techno-commercial and techno-legal aspects of new product / process implementation
  • Broad technical expertise in REACH, RoHS, Prop 65, TSCA, and other international regulations
  • Ability to rank relative compliance risks and prioritize resulting actions accordingly while handling/analyzing multiple arenas of legislation
  • Proven excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. A high degree of interpersonal skill is required as the incumbent must successfully interact with, and influence, others within various functional groups and client organizations
  • High level of building science technical familiarity and adaptability to complex market environments
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience meeting facilitation
  • Multilingual, preferred
