- Performs inspections, repairs, maintenance, and installation of HVAC equipment and related systems.
- Performs inspections, repairs, maintenance, and installation of HVAC equipment and related systems.
- Leads seasonal maintenance on HVAC systems to provide reliable and efficient operation.
- Works safely, reports and corrects safety issues.
- Adjusts and monitors environmental controls through various Building Automation Systems (BAS) controls.
- Follows written and verbal instructions and provides clear communication with customers, supervisor, and associates.
- General Facilities Duties. Snow Removal and inclement weather support.
- Grounds Maintenance (mowing, weeding, spreading fertilizer, seed, mulch and stone).
- Assists with moves, occasional cleaning, and repairs outside normal area of specialty.
- Assists with event setup as needed.
- May occasionally be asked to work at any of the other campuses as additional maintenance assistance is needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Administrative records keeping and preventative maintenance program monitoring.
- Manages jobs, orders needed parts and materials for jobs.
- Interfaces with outside contractors to facilitate rapid repairs and monitors monthly, quarterly, and annual preventative maintenance being performed.
- Keeps tools and test equipment in good working condition.
- Maintains HVAC repair parts inventory and helps with shop housekeeping measures.
- Provides input to HVAC and related systems replacement.
- Submits written recommendations for lifecycle ‘high time’ parts and system replacement.
- Monitors and verifies Contractor pricing for repairs and parts.
- May provide recommendations for budget development with regards to major system purchase.
- Employee fulfills occasional on-call obligations and handles associated on-call requests promptly and in accordance to supervisor’s expectations. Employee accommodates any necessary temporary shift demands.
Compensation and Benefits
The hiring range for this position is $55,000.00-$70,000.00. Salary will commensurate with education and experience. The position is classified staff and as such is eligible for the benefits package offered by the Commonwealth of Virginia for state agencies. For more information, please visit

- Completion of formal HVAC training with EPA 608 certification.
- Understanding of various Building Automation System (BAS) software suites with experience manipulating control systems.
- Ability to provide routine preventative maintenance and minor repairs to heating and cooling systems.
- Interface and properly verify work requests placed through outside contractors.
- Current Drivers License to cover assignments at all campuses/locations.
- Ability to troubleshoot systems through industry common standard procedures, instrument use, and deductive reasoning.
- Must possess a working knowledge of HVAC and related equipment; ability to troubleshoot and repair such equipment.
- Have EPA type II refrigerant usage certification or the ability to obtain.
- Must have a general knowledge of BAS and how it relates to the HVAC systems
- Must have the ability to use various test instruments to troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems. Must be able to evaluate information from the Building Automation system and use it to determine discrepancies, failures, and needed corrections within the HVAC system.
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Experience with various HVAC system types and models, to include; VRF, Chilled Water, Standard, and Ductless Split Systems.
- UNIVREF-Universal Refrigerant Recovery.
- Journeyman’s or Masters Level HVAC Certification.
- Proven academic excellence and subject matter knowledge, which may be evidenced by training, experience, and/or a bachelor’s degree.
