Job Description:

Field Engineering Specialist responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of complex mobile Telemetry data recording and Satellite Communication equipment to meet Navy customer flight test requirements. Position will provide project and technical support for the shipment, installation, grooming, operation, maintenance, modification, and removal of complex electronic systems. Systems include Telemetry systems, RF Instrumentation, Satellite Communications, Data Recording, Metrology data collection, System Interfaces and Software Operating Systems.

Responsible for projects and processes within the NMIS support ship Telemetry and SATCOM Launch group, achieving operational targets for assessment, testing, and delivery of assigned systems in support of Navy customer requirements. Support operational Navy testing events as a watch stander, responsible for communications, flight test safety, and data collection. Make short-notice independent assessments and decisions for technical areas of responsibility during critical and time-sensitive testing.

Assigned tasking requires communication within the NMIS Support Ship group, Integrated Technical Solutions, and Range and Test Solutions, as well as coordination with other supporting contractors and Navy customers. Guide, coach, and train other employees on areas of responsibility for project execution. Support of electronics systems includes general analysis, problem solving, procedure/process development, and innovations

Frequently requires travel to provide contracted services on a varying schedule. Travel includes international and embarkation on a Navy vessel for moderate periods of time. Requires supporting various tasking at the home location when not on travel, to include management of inventory control, repairs, systems grooming, on-the-job training, mentoring others, maintaining logbooks, filing reports, and other tasking as assigned.

Essential Functions:

• DOD Secret Security Clearance at the time of hire.
• Willingness to travel, including international, up to 50% of the time as required, often for 6-8 weeks at a time
• Willingness and ability to embark U.S. Navy ships as required
• Willingness and ability to climb and work on elevated platforms

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience, or Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior experience or a minimum of 6 years specifically in telemetry receiving, recording or SATCOM systems. Education/years of experience are not exclusive of other leveling factors, and other relevant education/experience in missile flight test telemetry and telemetry recording systems or SATCOM systems may be considered in place of the above education requirements.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Field Service Engineer operating independently with no little to no supervision.
• Possess a DOD Secret Security Clearance at the time of hire

Preferred Additional Skills:

• Experience using Telemetry data recording, SATCOM, Metrology electronic equipment.
• Direct experience supporting U.S. Navy Strategic Programs Flight Testing
• Experience to coordinate within the group and with external customers on areas of project responsibility
• Experience performing detailed analysis, problem solving, and innovation in satellite communications or telemetry tracking, recording systems
• Experience performing operations following strict procedures and updating procedures
• Electronic troubleshooting and repair with quality assurance workmanship skills
• IPC-610/620 and J-STD certifications
