By joining our Department of Highways/District 3/Traffic Engineering & Permits Section as a/an Highway Traffic Technician I in Warren County, you’ll have the opportunity to perform duties in the installation and maintenance of flashing beacons, roadway lighting and navigational lighting
Holders of the Highway Traffic Technician I position will complete tasks such as:
- Operate single axle trucks
- Place traffic control devices and serve as flagger to control and direct traffic
- Inspect and/or assist in the work of contractors installing or repairing signals or lights
- Maintain and complete records and reports on equipment, material, and work orders
- Use and operate bucket trucks
- Learn about electrical systems related to signals
- Signal timing
- One year of experience in electrical installation or electrical maintenance work
- Vocational or technical training in electricity or related field on a year-for-year basis
- Hold a valid driver license
- Must have the ability to walk, sit stoop and bend.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs.
- Must be able to respond to emergencies.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have one year of experience in electrical or electronic installation or electrical or electronics maintenance work.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Vocational or technical training in electricity, electronics or a related field will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Must possess certification in International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level I training. https://www.imsasafety.org/. Must possess certification in NFPA 70E Training for Qualified Employees for Low and High Voltage scenarios (NFPS.org). Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at various locations throughout the district or at a highway traffic facility. Must be able to work extended hours and during inclement weather, when necessary.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
