In this role you will:
- Support U.S. and International patent application preparation and prosecution includes drafting utility, design, and utility model applications and responding to official actions from the patent offices throughout the world (non-U.S. patent work to be coordinated with outside international counsel).
- Interface with scientists, engineers, business leaders, and IP Counsel to identify and harvest inventions, draft and prosecute applications, and support new product introductions.
- Coordinate with IP counsel on patent prosecution issues that impact global business objectives and provide support in executing portfolio management strategy.
- Lead or assist IP related work such as patent clearance studies, patentability searches, litigation support, competitor benchmarking, IP landscapes, and due diligence projects, as directed by and in partnership with IP Counsel.
- Prepare patent analytics, reports and assessments in support of an IP strategy.
- Prepare and present intellectual property training to employees.
- Provide litigation support as a technical liaison.
- Support the inventors’ recognition and awards program
- Opportunities for growth: manage an IP Portfolio with IP Counsel; partner with marketing teams to prosecute and manage the trademark portfolio.
Traits we believe make a strong candidate:
- Bachelors of Science or higher in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Physics;
- 3+ years of relevant experience in patent preparation and prosecution in the material or chemical arts;
- Knowledge of the USPTO and PCT process, patent procedural requirements, patent regulations, best practices, including post-grant proceedings;
- Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office;
- Familiarity with PTO practice in Asia countries is a plus;
- Ability to read and/or understand Chinese, Japanese, or Korean language is a plus;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and handle multiple projects;
- Can-do, roll-up-the-sleeves, part-of-a-team attitude for getting things done
- Ability and willingness to travel (approx. 10%).
