BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The H TX TRANSMISSION & DISTRIBUTION ENGINEERING Department of the H ENGINEERING Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. (Role: Non-Exempt)


JOB FUNCTION:

Is responsible for services installations of underground and overhead service to residential, commercial, and industrial customers whose demands are 10 KVA and below. Prepares plans, cost estimates, material lists and construction work orders for overhead and underground distribution line extensions and additions, distributions line relocations, conversions and reconditioning projects which can be accomplished by application of construction standards and guidelines.


FUNDAMENTAL RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Determines and designates with the customer the routes of overhead and underground service installations for residential, small commercial and industrial customers; issues work orders and part-cost billings for installations.
  • Coordinates and obtains approval for installations with developers, consultants, contractors, and other joint pole members.
  • Investigates and determines transformer capacity. Issues work orders and material lists to make necessary changes or additions.
  • Single Phase pole line construction/replacement and ancillary equipment not to exceed five poles.
  • Single Phase underground line extension/replacement and ancillary equipment not to exceed three hand holes.
  • Determines and stakes out pole and anchor locations. Prepares sketch, material lists, joint pole applications, and customer's cost estimate for service installations; forwards cost to applicant.
  • Obtains required right-of-way data from landowners.
  • Prepares sketch, material lists, customer's cost estimate.
  • Notifies applicants as to cost of services; notifies telephone company in writing of road crossings.
  • Makes field inspections of installations. If necessary, notifies contractor or applicant to make corrections.
  • Investigates minor customer complaints pertaining to poles or anchors, bare service lines, and tree touching lines.
  • Investigates low voltage complaints for residential services; issues work orders to adjudicate complaints.
  • Issues forms for meter installation.
  • Provides information to update distribution maps.
  • Trains personnel of lower classifications as directed.
  • Utilizes the computer aided design and drafting (CADD) system to perform the duties/responsibilities of the position including preparing design sketches, permanent drawings and maps, etc.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Makes power inspections.
  • Occasionally assists higher classified personnel on large jobs.
  • Performs similar and incidental duties as required.

FUNDAMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must pass the Edison Electric Institute Technician Occupations Selection System (TECH).
  • Must pass the SRA Oral & Written Directions Test.
  • Ability to identify and distinguish the difference between colors, including shades, hues and tints.
  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license. Must meet the standards for frequent or required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.
  • Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities to manage multiple projects, deal with customers, conduct field work, and produce detailed designs and estimates.
  • Must be able to pass a performance test covering basic design print reading, estimating, and design package processing.
