Job Purpose:

This position renders technical nursing care to assigned patients. The incumbent provides direct and indirect care under the supervision of a physician or nurse practitioner. Nurse oversee nurse assistants and collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners and multidisciplinary team members to achieve the highest standards of care specific to the age and needs of the patient. Nurse provides patient care/services for all stages of the lifespan.

1. Practices in accordance with hospital philosophy; Nursing Department's philosophy, goals, and standards of care; Oklahoma Board of Nursing; Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act and other regulating agencies.

1.1 Demonstrates commitment to the hospitals’ and nursing division's philosophy, goals and standards of care.

2.2 Assists physicians and other interdisciplinary care providers in individualizing plans of care.

2.3 Implements the interdisciplinary plan of care within established guidelines to improve or maintain patient's mental and physical health.

2.4 Reports patient outcomes to the physicians and other care providers.

3. Ensures a secure and safe patient environment by practicing in accordance with organization and unit specific policies, procedures, and standards of care.

3.1 Practices safety and infection control measures and principles.

3.2 Completes treatments, medication administration, and equipment use following established standards.

3.3 Ensures comfort and hygiene measures are met to avoid infection or safety hazards.

3.4 Responds appropriately to emergency situations.

4. Establishes a caring, humanitarian environment by providing emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual support to patients and their significant others.

4.1 Respects and ensures that all patient rights are protected.

4.2 Demonstrates effective communication skills to treat patients/others with dignity and respect.

4.3 Communicates procedural information to patient/significant others in a way that emotionally supports.

4.4 Using proper channels of communication. Identifies and reports significant patient information.

4.5 Contributes to patient satisfaction by making customers the first priority.

5. Promotes the patient's well-being, maximal independence and ability to make informed decisions by reinforcing the patient/significant others' knowledge and understanding of the disease, medications and self-care skills.

9. Records the Nursing process.

9.1 Documents assessments, patient needs, interventions for improving/maintaining patient/family condition to address needs, responses to interventions, reinforcement of teaching, and patient status on designated forms.

10. Maintains job-specific competency which addresses effective, safe use of equipment, infection

control, disaster preparedness training, emergency lifesaving procedures (CPR), and patient

information management.

10.1 Completes competency checklist and disaster training annually or more often as required

by department policy.

10.2 Completes self-evaluation and continuing education record in an ongoing manner annually.

11. Provides age/development appropriate patient care in accordance with Age-Specific Care

Guidelines for the specific age groups served.

11.1 Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific patient care factors in the Age-Specific Care

Guidelines.

11.2 Provides for patient safety, hygiene and personal care with regard to age-specific needs.

11.3 Communicating information and conveying patient needs sensitive to age and developmental

level of the individual patient/family.

11.4 Maintaining competence related to age-specific care.

11.5 Demonstrates competency in clinical knowledge/skills and communication to the ages of the

patients served.

12. Accountable for other duties as requested.

13.1 Assists with management of staff during an assigned shift.

13.2 Coordinates unit operation for an assigned shift.

Job Specifications

Minimum Level Qualifications

Education:

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.

Experience:

- None required for the beginning practitioner.

- SNF charge nurses should have 1 years’ experience.

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration:

Current license to practice as a Licensed Practical / Registered Nurse in Oklahoma.

CPR Certification required or must be obtained within probationary period.

Skills and Qualifications:

- Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, nonverbal and listening skills).

- Ability to provide direct and indirect patient care.

Other Special Characteristics:

- May be required to work unusual or additional shift hours.

- Works under stressful conditions and in difficult situations.

- Must be able to prioritize well in coordination with other disciplines and other levels of nursing

staff.

- Excellent teamwork skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
