Salary: $50,000 - $52,000 annually.

Starting salaries typically fall in the lower half of the salary range; however, they are ultimately determined by the scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity.

Position Title: Bilingual Economic Mobility Coach (Program Mentor) , Spanish and/or Haitian Creole preferred.

Supervisor: Director of STEPS – Scattered Sites

ABOUT THE ROLE:

EMPath provides families with transitional emergency housing assistance as a family shelter provider for The Commonwealth of Massachusetts through contractual funding from the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). The Economic Mobility Coach is the primary point of contact for program participants and is a part of a dynamic team providing Mobility Mentoring®—an internationally recognized economic coaching approach.

EMPath provides essential direct services and this role is required to be in-person.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide one-to-one Mobility Mentoring coaching to participants on goals related to upward economic mobility, including housing, budgeting, career and education, child care, health care, and more.
  • Conducts detailed assessments to identify each family’s strength’s, needs and establishes individual mobility goals, while monitoring and documenting progress on individualized plans.
  • Maintains a strong sense of emotional intelligence, reliability, and flexibility to navigate complex issues at any given time without judgement.
  • Communicates effectively to a wide array of audiences from participants to external stakeholders.
  • Familiar with implementing state or federally funded programs and/ or an ability to adhere to Department of Housing and Community Development (DCHD) contractual requirements.
  • Completes timely and accurate service documentation; maintains data management records and assists with program reporting tracking elements
  • Assists participants through problem solving, direct support, intervention, de-escalation and mediation as necessary.
  • Utilizes a trauma sensitive, coaching, and child-centered orientation in work with participants.
  • Maintains a resourcefulness and ensures proper referrals are made in collaboration with internal and external resources, and adherence to shelter policies and procedures.
  • Follows all EMPath and DHCD policies and procedures including emergency preparedness, fitness of habitability, and others as required.
  • As needed, follows through with On-call procedures for issues related to emergencies, lock-outs, and facilitating solutions related to shelter unit participants.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND COMPOTENCIES:

  • Associate’s degree in human services, social work or related field; Bachelor’s Degree is preferred
  • 1 - 2 years of experience in case management, direct homeless services, or life skills coaching
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Haitian Creole
  • Basic understanding of coaching, motivational interviewing, and mentoring practices and skills.
  • Basic knowledge of case management principles and community resources.
  • Cultural competency and ability to establish effective professional relationships with diverse group of clients.
  • Strong mediation, crisis intervention, negotiation, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle a variety of assignments and have flexibility to work some evenings if necessary.
  • Strong organizational skills and high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills and digital competence.
  • Must be able to travel to throughout the Greater Boston Area (Mattapan, Dorchester, Roxbury) by personal vehicle, rideshare, or public transportation.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment. Work is done in the community at home visits. May require attendance at off-site meetings related to service provision and housing search. May require some evening hours. Work can be fast paced.
