Position Summary

The Postsecondary Success Coordinator (PSC) is a full-time, grant funded position supporting the Letcher Promise Neighborhood initiative. Reporting to the Program Manager, the PSC will work to ensure effective implementation of postsecondary services within the transitions are of the cradle-to-career continuum. The Postsecondary Success Coordinator supervises postsecondary navigators and family navigators and assists with on-site staff training; coordinates postsecondary transition services, ensuring that all Promise Neighborhood students are supported during high school, the transition to postsecondary, and throughout their postsecondary education. Through collaboration with other school and Promise Neighborhood staff, the PSC ensures a continuum of college and career services that support all high school and postsecondary students with no resource or age gaps. Additionally, the PSC monitors programs and makes necessary adjustments to postsecondary services and activities through data analysis, working to achieve the result that All Rural Students Succeed.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Consistently demonstrate and apply a working knowledge of the Promise Neighborhood results and objectives.
  • Work with postsecondary navigators to support student achievement toward Promise Neighborhood targets and results.
  • Collaborate with school and Promise Neighborhood staff to ensure a continuum that provides services to all students with no resource or age gaps.
  • Monitor programs and make necessary program adjustments to services and activities as called for by ongoing data analysis.
  • Assess needs of students, families, and school and evaluate the impact of the PN program on these groups, modify services as needed.
  • Assist with onsite staff training.
  • Manage a portion of the Promise Neighborhood federal budget and ensure that all expenditures are allowable and within the scope of work.
  • Ensure that required documentation and records of services are collected and filed appropriately.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Promise Neighborhood team to ensure the effective delivery of services along the Promise Neighborhood pipeline.
  • Communicate the Promise Neighborhood mission and vision to community, parents, staff, and students.
  • Provide leadership and work collaboratively with the school principal to implement the comprehensive program plan.
  • Perform related duties to meet program objectives.

Position Location & Schedule

The Postsecondary Success Coordinator may be considered for hybrid work, with onsite work primarily performed in Letcher County, KY or Jenkins Independent Schools. Local, state, and sometimes national travel required.


Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Because of the nature of the responsibility to schools, partners, funders, and to the service region, individual offices or departments may have operating hours that extend beyond this period and may include evening and/or weekend hours.


Minimum Qualifications


Education required to ensure success in this position:

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field; Master's degree preferred

Experience required to ensure success in this position:

  • Experience and familiarity with college access initiatives
  • Background in the supervision and training of personnel
  • Experience working in rural schools and communities
  • Community engagement experience

Special skills, knowledge and abilities:

  • Exceptional rapport with students
  • Understanding of the skills and requirements to be college & career ready
  • Demonstrated understanding of Promise Neighborhood initiative
  • Understanding of first generation, low-income youth and families
  • Commitment to students from diverse economic, social and cultural backgrounds
  • Strong desire to develop innovative approaches to meet outcomes
  • Demonstrated proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, Adobe, data processing & financial spreadsheets
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with others

License, certification, or registration necessary:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to successfully complete pre-employment background check


Physical requirements:

  • Ability to work within a high energy office
  • Ability to accurately communicate and exchange information with partners, stakeholders, and/or meeting participants
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to travel independently by car and plane to eastern Kentucky, statewide sites, and nationally

Environmental conditions:

  • Work in a fast-paced setting with frequent interruptions and shifting priorities
  • Periodic to travel to meetings and events
