SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

This position provides support to the process engineering function within the Diamond Turning Department. In general, work is to be performed in support of ‘Spectral Systems’ Quality Statement’. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to complete all areas outlined for this position in a satisfactory manner. Essential functions include interface between sales and production departments on converting customer needs into fabricated products.

SPECIFIC DUTIES, ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

PRIMARY TASKS TO BE PERFORMED:

  • Commits to providing our customers with outstanding value, service and product quality.
  • Provides direct support to the engineering department’s goals and objectives through process engineering efforts.
  • Works per the Operations Manager directives to support other departments with their efforts to assure processes and systems function at a level that is capable of meeting or exceeding the production quality, value and service expectations of our customers.
  • Supports documentation such as data collection, travelers, pick sheets, WIP, product performance charts, product yield information and other documents per the VP of Technology’s directives.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of product, equipment, tools and supplies within assigned work areas.
  • Works per the Operations Manager directives to support the effective and efficient transfer of new product or processes from concept into limited production.
  • Works per the Operations Manager directives for the processing of special or unique orders either to support sales samples, customer requests or internal efforts.
  • Identifies tooling and equipment needs and makes recommendations to the Operations Manager for their purchase or modification.
  • Works per the Operations Manager directives to team with manufacturing, quality control, purchasing, sales and work cell personnel to integrate into manufacturing new or modified equipment, tooling, process, procedures, SOP’s, safety requirements and help provide training as required.
  • Reviews customer’s drawings and approve Spectral Systems drawings for optical components or coatings.
  • Generate work instructions for work centers to follow for fabrication of optical components.
  • Reports in detail to the Operations Manager, progress towards individual assignments and projects. Also, reports progress towards department, individual goals and any departmental issue.

SECONDARY TASKS TO BE PERFORMED:

  • Help to bench mark and develop performance standards as well as monitor progress towards company quality goals.
  • Support company values and work ethics.
  • Perform tasks as assigned by the Operations Manager in a timely and professional manner.
  • Support other departments as required in a timely and professional manner.
  • Support as needed towards lean manufacturing events, root cause analysis, preventative action, customer returns, non-conformance and other quality events.
  • Team and communicate openly with all Spectral Systems’ employees in order to maintain and continually improve the quality, the delivery and the costs of fabricated product.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and enforces all safety protocols.
  • Report to the Operations Manager and Security Officer all security breaches.
  • Report to the Operations Manager and Safety Officer any observed employee accidents or person injury.
Requirements:

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Training:

  • Required: None
  • Preferred: Under graduate degree in engineering, chemistry or physics from a certified college or university.

Experience:

  • Required: 4 year degree/no experience or 2 year degree 3-5 years’ work experience as a technician in the processing of optical grade material for optical components

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to use Algebra and Trigonometry
  • Ability to work towards goals and objectives with little supervision
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Ability to generate documents such as procedures
  • Skilled in forming spreadsheets for data entry and capable of data analysis through statistical methodologies
  • Ability to communicate to all levels of the organization
  • Mechanically inclined with a history of strong hands-on experience
  • Ability to generate reports and charts

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • BODY POSITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for prolonged periods of time. The individual must also have the ability to maneuver around the plant and climb stairs.
  • BODY MOVEMENTS: The employee must have a full range of body movements including use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, computer equipment and peripherals; and bending, reaching and crouching.
  • BODY SENSES: Must have command of these senses: sight, hearing, touch and smell (if applicable). Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. These vision requirements in each area must be sufficient to shift in focus from computer screens to close forms.
  • STRENGTH: Must frequently lift and carry 20 pounds and occasionally lift 50 pounds.

  • Performs work with environmental safety in mind.
  • Employee works within the guidelines of the latest revisions of Spectral System LLC’s safety and security protocols.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position will be working primarily indoors in a climate-controlled, smoke-free environment, but also requires the employee to be moving through other areas on a regular basis. From this movement, the employee will encounter varying temperatures from these areas. The normal auto and air travel hazards will apply. Travel will be in all types of weather including heavy rain and below freezing temperatures with snow conditions possible.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to low.
