We are seeking a Propulsion Expert for a large, multi-year contract supporting critical development programs. The Space Propulsion Expert must possess and have successfully demonstrated technical competence, excellent oral and written communication skills, problem-solving skills, analytical skills, and the interpersonal skills necessary to determine and implement the proper and effective engineering principles, industry standards, company process, and knowledge relating to space propulsion system design, manufacture, test and operations.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Apply engineering principles, knowledge of vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, propulsion, classical/modern control
  • Document designs, analysis, and test results and create presentation materials
  • Present designs, analysis, reviews, and test results to internal and external customers
  • Expert knowledge on the power, propulsion, guidance/navigation, communications, and/or payload systems down to the critical component level
  • Oversee satellite integration readiness, working with other contractors and government personnel and provide unbiased analysis with recommendations on courses of actions or approaches to exploit an opportunity
  • Integrate activities in the context of cross-systems dependencies (technical, resource, and schedule) and present unbiased findings, analysis, and recommendations to the government manager
  • Participate in project or system reviews, milestones, and/or decision gates and represent the government’s interests with other stakeholders
  • Support government requests for systems engineering and integration studies; process analysis and design; project management process assessments
  • Be involved throughout the development lifecycle by analyzing and developing concepts of operations, requirements, participating in design reviews, analyzing test results during verification and validation
  • Coordinate with satellite operators to ensure validity of operational processes and procedures, through vehicle launch and initialization
  • Provide guidance in the areas of image science & processing, astrodynamics, orbital analysis, and tools
  • Work collaboratively with aerospace colleagues, customer personnel, and contractor personnel on projects to assist customers in making timely informed acquisition decisions for delivering space, ground, launch systems and services focused on addressing mission challenges

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Active and Current TS/SCI with willingness to take a Poly
  • Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience
  • Technical knowledge of spacecraft systems (bus, payload) and subsystems (attitude and control systems, propulsion, life support systems, etc.), ground communications and mission data processing systems, space vehicle mission planning and command and control systems and orbital mechanics
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in astrodynamics and related space operations, Spacecraft and launch vehicle engineering
  • Thermal engineering with a background in the fundamentals of providing thermal management for both mechanical and electrical components and sub systems
  • Test and evaluation experience with a background in the design of test rigs, test instrumentation, high power test equipment, test planning and execution and test data processing

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) experience
  • Real-time operations experience as a spacecraft operator or spacecraft engineer
  • Familiarity with GEOINT and Launch systems to include Space-borne reconnaissance & surveillance
  • Knowledge of space vehicle dynamics, astrodynamics, integration & test, aerodynamics, propulsion
