Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Analyzes property and casualty loss data, identifies cause of loss and trends; and conducts targeted Operations/ORM programs to effectively reduce the frequency and severity of losses;

• Documents in coordination with Operations personnel, attorneys and insurance professionals in a manner sufficient to meet evidentiary requirements for claim support activities;

• Responsible for reviewing applicable fire, life safety standards and equipment, determining the most cost effective method of immediate code compliance on a per-building/project/amp basis;

• In coordination with Operations personnel and resident councils, conducts fire safety seminars, emergency evacuation seminars and emergency preparedness seminars for residents and staff.

• Provides risk management training and recommendations to Operations personnel centering around evacuations, organizational safety and asset protection;

• Coordinates a comprehensive operations property risk assessment program to maximize protection of organizational assets; monitors and achieves asset liability reduction;

• Responsible for quality assurance involving property inspections and all activities involving compliance with applicable regulatory requirements;

• Assists and provides support for all issues relating to the operation of the Office of Risk Management including loss prevention, compliance policy, property inspection, environmental and safety practices; and overall Enterprise Risk Management;

• Performs other related duties as assigned

• Detailed, intensive knowledge of the policies, procedures, goals, objectives, operational entities, requirements and activities as they apply to the assigned organizational entity in the DCHA
• Knowledge of the principles, standards and techniques of safety and occupational health management
• Professional knowledge of insurance, property, safety, and liability risks
• Ability to appropriately identify and apply appropriate techniques and strategies to programs and policies that will minimize loss
• Ability to think logically, analyze problems, follow systematic procedures and develop comprehensive reports and recommendations
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college or university and a minimum of five years’ experience in the safety and occupational health field, fire, risk management, etc.; or other equivalent combination of education and experience which meets the minimum qualifications requirement.

Technical Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have working knowledge of the use of personal computers and various software packages such as Microsoft Word and Outlook; and must be able to learn other computer software programs as required by assigned tasks.
