Job Description:
The Referral Specialist is responsible to execute patient referrals as indicated by physicians, seek authorization as required by individual insurances and notify patients.As a Patient Referral Coordinator, you need to know how to:

Express thoughts clearly and concisely (verbal and written)
Self-Direct; motivate and function successfully in a team environment
Comply with safety and infection control procedures as established within the office
Obtain scheduling and/or referral request from physician
Verify insurance coverage or lack thereof for patient
Chose location of procedure from approved list
Contact procedure location and schedule appointment for patient.
Complete procedure paperwork, including copies, and fax to procedure location.
Contact patient regarding procedure information and give name, location, telephone number of specialist.
Return procedure paperwork to file or physician depending on appropriate paperwork completed.
Complete referral paperwork, including copies, and fax to specialist office.
Contact patient regarding referral information and give name, location, telephone number of specialist.
Return referral to physician for signature of completion.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent
2 years’ experience in outpatient clinic, healthcare environment or other clerical position
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with PC software applications in word processing, , Word, Excel
Physical Requirements:
Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
Frequent interactions with customers that require employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use.
Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment.
Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
