Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist III in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

The lab of Dr. Jag Sunderram at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist III to carry out studies related to the effect of chronic intermittent hypoxia and dust exposure using transgenic mouse models. The Sunderram lab has a particular interest in the consequences of sleep apnea using animal models. This a grant-funded position is available immediately. Expertise in the use of transgenic mouse models, performing animal and molecular biology experiments, with knowledge in techniques, including real time PCR, cDNA synthesis, RNA isolation, immunohistochemistry, Western blot is preferred. Strong communication skills and proficiency in spoken and written English is required.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Managing lab supply inventory and submit purchase
  • recommendations to PI for analytic and preparative equipment, reagents, and laboratory operating supplies and enacts on purchasing decisions.
  • Track and manage grant spending, and lab inventory.
  • Overseeing the chemical safety and hazardous waste disposal.
  • Maintaining lab equipment and updating documentation lab protocols.
  • Genotyping for mouse strains and demonstrating strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Keep neat, thorough, and up-to-date records of procedures and experiments using paper and/or electronic platforms.
  • Compile and analyze data.
  • Present data to PI and other lab members.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Masters degree in a relevant science plus one (1) year of related research experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant science plus two (2) years of related research experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills; and ability to understand and proficiency in English to sufficiently perform the job duties.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must have the ability to work collaboratively and independently.
