Job Description

Kummer Student Programs manages the undergraduate Vanguard Scholars and graduate Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E) Doctoral Fellows co-curricular programs that offer professional development experiences in the areas of entrepreneurship, social responsibility, research, design and build, and leadership to create a lasting local, regional, and national impact. This position:

  • Provides administrative support in the management of the Kummer student programs, possesses a broad understanding of the programs and assists in identifying solutions.
  • Serves as the first point of contact for students, academic departments, campus administration/partners, parents, and S&T alumni; answers the main phone line, greets staff and guests, monitors the general resource email account, and creates general correspondence.
  • Directs inquiries accordingly and to the appropriate campus partners, prioritizes inquiries that require immediate attention, and collaborates with staff in providing relative information.
  • Impacts the quality of the program through planning, organization and coordination of program meetings, events and activities including maintaining calendars, location reservations, catering requests, materials, and necessary technology.
  • Prepares presentation materials, as well as composes and edits a variety of textual correspondences.
  • Performs fiscal-related tasks including preparing expense reports and reconciling accounts, coordinating gift card program requests; maintains inventory of and orders office and program supplies.
  • Coordinates I&E Doctoral Fellows semester awards and processes professional development fund requests.
  • Monitors student’s financial support and academic and programmatic progress.
  • Provides position management support including managing job postings and hiring processes, coordinating interviews, and assisting with onboarding new staff and exit procedures for departures.
  • Uses discretion, as applicable, to modify work practices and processes to achieve results or improve efficiency.
  • Maintains the professional appearance of the office, coordinates maintenance and IT requests.
  • Exercises a high level of discretion and confidentiality with student records and organizational matters.
  • As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities may be expected.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong analytic and time management skills, as well as excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while exhibiting strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to quickly learn new computer programs specific to departmental needs
  • This position will work with both internal and external constituents, therefore strong professional, interpersonal communications skills (oral, written, in-person) and the ability to explain detailed, sensitive, confidential and/or complicated information to and within the team and/or necessary parties
