Job description

This position is a field technician position, the purpose of this position is to provide adequate training and hands on experience to facilitate the advancement to a permanent position with the Natural Resource Conservation Service.

As a technician you will have the possibility of multiple hours in the field on any given day. This will range from traversing a varying scope of terrain of tall pasture grass, fields planted to crop, or worked crop ground, as well as maneuvering through or over fences, all in varying weather conditions. As a Soil Technician your responsibilities will include visiting landowners, evaluating field conditions and conservation best management practices, designing practices utilizing surveying equipment (transit, laser level, etc) as well as multiple computer programs, overseeing construction progress on active contracts, performing checkouts on completed projects utilizing survey equipment, and related field and office duties. All necessary training will be provided.

Starting pay is $36,118 per year with an annual $4,800 health insurance incentive in lieu of health insurance. Position will remain open until filled.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED
Requirements include a background in conservation or agriculture (a two year degree with agriculture classes will substitute for background in conservation or agriculture), an ability to communicate effectively and in a timely manner, and work well with people. A valid Kansas state driver’s license or ability to acquire one within 90 days of establishing residency, and a successful security background investigation clearance as required by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture.
