Eden Counseling Services seeks a passionate and effective Staff Therapist to work in our Clinic Based
Outpatient Services program in Castro Valley, serving the local community. Our Eden staff pride themselves in making a difference in the lives of the youth and families in our local community.

Eden Counseling is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Castro Valley serving the community since 2000. Our programs include an innovative 48-hour Crisis Receiving Home (CRH) for youth (8-17 yrs.); School-Based counseling services in Castro Valley Unified School District (CVUSD); Clinic-Based Outpatient services for the local community; Case Management, and Crisis Support/ Reunification services for youth brought to our CRH. Therapy Services include individual, dyadic, family, couples, and group therapy. Eden strives to provide the highest quality Client-Centered, Family- Oriented, Culturally and Contextually responsive, Trauma-Informed care, grounded in Attachment based theories.

Our clients are primarily local adults, youth and families from the Eden area (unincorporated Alameda County). Eden clients represent the diversity that exists in our community. A breakdown of clients Eden has recently supported includes: 36% Latinx; 17% African-American; 6% Asian-American; 25% Euro-American; 2% Native-American; and 14% other. We continue to focus on increasing services we specifically offer the LGBTQ+ community. Languages offered by current staff members include
Spanish, Tagalog, Japanese, French, and English.

Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Staff Therapist - School Based Services, Middle School Coordinator reports to the Co-Executive Director overseeing School Based Services, and partners with all therapists working in School Based Services. We are seeking a bright, resourceful, effective problem solver with the passion and drive to provide therapy and counseling support to young people in CVUSD. The Staff Therapist will ideally integrate seamlessly in the school environment(s) they are assigned to and lead with collaboration and partnership. The ideal candidate will have a base of knowledge in providing individual and group therapy for school-aged youth demonstrating pride in their work and upholding best clinical practices to the greatest extent feasible.

Roles and Responsibilities

INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP THERAPY

  • Provide individual therapy to students referred by school staff or who self-refer by dropping-in to school wellness centers. Spend approximately 60% of work hours in direct service.
  • Provide group counseling and support based on the needs of each school.
  • Provide drop-in support to students who arrive at the school’s wellness center.
  • May also provide clinic-based therapy services, depending on hours and assigned school requirements.

COORDINATION WITH MIDDLE SCHOOLS

  • Work with both Creekside and Canyon Middle Schools to coordinate services for students with Eden clinicians - including Staff Therapists and Graduate Trainees.
  • Attend COST meetings for both schools, facilitate assignment of cases to other clinicians in addition to personal caseload.
  • Provide ad hoc support and consultation for middle school clinicians, referring out to Eden Executive Team and Clinical Supervisors as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Eden Executive Team on identifying areas of challenges and troubleshooting.

ADMINISTRATIVE CLINICAL TASKS

  • Thoughtfully and promptly complete all clinical documentation including assessments and progress notes.
  • Track and input service data for reporting purposes to CVUSD and other funders, as directed.
  • Complete Mandated Reporter reports in accordance with state and federal guidelines.

PROVIDE

  • Creating, implementing, evaluating and maintaining Program Manuals
  • Actively participating in and organizing the recruiting, hiring, and onboarding of new trainee cohorts each year
  • Proactively seeking out best practices and new technology tools for implementation
  • Identifying and ensuring Agency meets or exceeds Program Deliverables

o Manage flow of referrals, intakes, and discharges, while ensuring accessibility and welcoming of all people

o Ensure program relevant performance data is accurately tracked

o Assure services are provided in compliance with funders, including documentation, grant management, presentations, and reports

  • Collaborating with Executive Team to make and implement program and policy decisions
  • Proposing and employing quality improvement and efficiency strategies
  • Actively troubleshooting identified challenges, seeking support as needed
  • Proactively communicate about program progress and challenges

AGENCY LEVEL INITIATIVES

Partnering and contributing to the leadership of the agency as a whole

  • Actively participate in projects affecting the whole organization at the direction of, and in collaboration with, the Executive Team
  • Support infrastructure and development projects, performing specific tasks as assigned
  • Participate in Eden leadership meetings and trainings, as scheduled

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in mental health (e.g. Ph.D., Psy.D., MSW and/or MA in Psychology or related field). Must be registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences or Board of Psychology (or able to show proof of pending application); must be eligible for licensure via the BOP (Psychological Assistant, Registered Psychologist) or BBS (AMFT/LMFT, APCC/LPCC, ASW/LCSW).
  • Bilingual Spanish/English Preferred.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of modern clinical psychology, including psychopathology, personality theory, and diagnostic interviewing.
  • Ability to determine the needs of individual situations regarding diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, taking an effective course of action, and follow through with effective engagement plans.
  • Valid California driver’s license and current automobile insurance.
