This recruitment will be used to fill over 300 part-time (a max of 20 hours per week) Student Food Service positions for University Housing and Dining Services in Corvallis.
Hiring happens throughout the year.

At time of posting, starting wage is $15.15 per hour.

University Housing and Dining is seeking student Food Service Workers who will work in various dining halls, catering, coffee shops and food service areas across campus.

Some positions will not require a Criminal History Check.
Catering positions may require a Criminal History Check and a Motor Vehicle History Check.
Position Duties
  • Provide exceptional, attentive customer service.
  • Assist customers and answer questions regarding menu items, ingredients, allergens, and current prices.
  • Learn to cook and prepare menu items using raw products and meats as well as most common food allergens, including gluten.
  • Learn to use food service equipment including knives.
  • Appropriately portion, assemble and serve menu items to order, including special diet items.
  • Make beverages and stock products and/or ingredients.
  • Operate cash registers; receive cash, OSU ID Card for dining plan deductions, and credit cards; process meal perqs
  • Restock guest items and maintain cleanliness of work area, serving area, and dining room.
  • Help in all tasks related to the preparation, service, storage, and transportation of hot and cold foods, as well as raw and prepared foods, using the food safety principles of HACCP.
  • Assist in dish washing, equipment sanitation, and frequent cleaning tasks to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • All employees are regularly reassigned as needed to assist in other work areas on occasions when a location is short staffed.
  • Other tasks as assigned by supervisor.


Catering position:
  • Gathers equipment, food, and beverage for a catering event, then delivers to the specified location on or off-campus, meeting event deadlines, while ensuring food quality and safety.
  • Events take place 7 days a week and may require early or late work shifts.
  • Driving can be an essential part of the job.

The Catering positions will deliver, or collect, food and beverage items in access-secured residence halls, where there may be minors present; and/or this position may need to regularly access storage areas in a residence hall without an escort. These security sensitive tasks will require passing a Criminal History Check and potentially a Motor Vehicle History Check.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*


  • International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Must be able to understand both written and verbal instruction, to ensure employee and guest safety.


Valid Oregon Food Handlers Certificate within 30 day of employment and must always maintain a food handler’s card while employed with UHDS .

Some positions are designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent may be required to successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

This position may require driving a University vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the University; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History Check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions (as per Voluntary and Compulsory Driver Standards OSU Standard 125-155-0200) as per OSU Standard 576-056-0000 et seq.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications Working Conditions / Work Schedule
  • Students are expected to work 10 to 20 hours per week. Available shifts will vary. Schedule to be determined by hiring unit and student’s availability.
  • Good attendance is crucial for stability and day to day business needs.
  • Must follow schedule and be on time, in uniform, when shift begins.
  • May require walking, standing, bending, and stooping for extended periods.
  • May require maneuvering heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
  • This is a physically active job in a kitchen and retail environment. There may be long periods of standing on a hard floor, working with commercial kitchen equipment, fluctuation in workflow, temperature, and noise level.
  • Uniform requirement — slip resistant shoes and long pants (i.e. dark blue or black jeans/pants in good condition) are required and must be provided by employee.
